That’s great! Short cranks taught me that going fast isn’t about leaning forward and then catching up with the wheel, but rather building up frequency at the expect right angle. When doing this I don’t even “feel” the speed, it is so smooth. And yes, this skill translated to longer cranks and other wheel sizes.
But of you are going just as fast, then you either aren’t going fast enough on 100s or you have a lot of terrain or stops on your route. What about riding 125mm? With 150s, I just don’t feel I can put much force behind my strokes really. It’s very hectic indeed.
You are quite right Setonix.
It is the site of the Grauballe mand, the bog man from Grauballe.
Back when you were there he was exhibited in the Moesgaard Manor itself. In 2014 this building crash landed or shot out of the ground next to the Manor. I can’t decide what it is supposed to look like, but I think it is rather cool inside and outside.
If you look closely on the photo from the top you can see the pink coloured manor between the trees below.
Actually, I just realised that last year I had 165mm cranks, while yesterday I rode with 150mm cranks. So there is some improvement, after all .
The left crank creaked a bit, so I‘ll have a mm or two machined off of the spacer. That should take care of the issue.
For me it’s probably 70% of the former and 30% of the latter if I had to guess. I have a few intersections that I have to cross on my daily route, though it’s otherwise an open and flat ride.
My average speed is still a little faster on short cranks (probably 11 mph over an 8 mile ride versus maybe 10-10.5 on the longer cranks), though my top speed (with a tailwind) for long and short is probably on the upper end of 16 mph. Soon I’ll probably switch it back to 125s for a couple more rides
And it’s not allowed to ride up the roof of the Oslo opera house and yet I have the Strava “local legend” for riding up there more than anyone. Shh… don’t tell!
As much as I would have loved to join the Cranky Crew on a rainy 123 km ride on Sunday, I am afraid I will have to take a rain check on this one. I might be crazy, but I am not insane!
Are you planning to change the tire or will you ride it like that? Seems clearly a road tire to me, so I totally get Ruaris comment and think you should join him and SirCranky on sunday rather than bothering with muni on saturday.
That is Crazy. I don’t go Unicycling when it is starting to rain. Most of the time in Winter I stay at home and under the week I don’t have time for the Unicycle.
