Pictures of your latest ride continued

@SirCranky keep nudging me about that Easter 100 km. So here I am trying to get back into shape with my 36er again. Well, first I have to get my old Coker into shape…

As I am still a bit sick I decided to take it easy with 150s. But these are so long I can climb trees, and the wobbling is causing tremors on the ritchers scale!

So I gave up in the end and emptied my bag for the pedal tool. Which I 10 minutes of desperate rummaging later realized I had left at home. Then I realized I can just use a magical crank shortening trick @Ruari taught me:

So I have been cruising around on 125s since…

And I am still cruising… I will keep cruising until all that is left of me are the unicycle tracks of my King George tyre.

I need to find a “chef kiss” emoji.

That’s great! I am also practicing with long cranks for this ride.

Rode with my daughter on the trail. Beautiful day. Had to put the training wheel on and use my wife’s bike to keep up, if I don’t she leaves me in the dust. Old man age already getting to me. I will repent and ride my uni to compensate for this indescretion.

It was truly easy mode. 4-7sec still stands with minimal effort. Gearing made climbing trivial. No fore/aft dismount issues. Bikers truly do have it too easy.

36"/125 mm. Such long cranks really are great for cruising around town.

Sure but you have to behave when going around corners with

so the pedals don’t hit the ground

Inspired by Ruaris rides on the slopes of the Oslo Opera, I found myself a sloping roof on the Moesgaard Museum. 10 degrees incline. I could not ride all the way to the top without a break.

Riding anything on the roof is not allowed, but it was outside opening hours and dinner time for most people. I was alone on the roof.

Nearly a year after my first real muni ride I rode the same trail again today. My technical skills didn’t develop in an overwhelming way during those 11 months, unfortunately. Given how rarely I ride trails, that shouldn’t be surprising. On the positive side my stamina got better. Last time I had to take many breaks because I was just out of power. Today I could ride longer between breaks, and I just rode until I UPD’d because I didn’t have the power anymore to tackle roots etc.

Was a fun ride with many props from b!kers. Had a ~10 minutes long chat with one of them, and a short chat with two boys who were asking what I was doing (I had my uni hanging on a tree to take pictures of it:

One of the boys said, he had also a unicycle (“but a small one with a normal tire to ride on concrete”). I replied if he ever had the chance to try out a muni, he shouldn’t miss it.

Anklebreaker ready to go at the start.

Posing for the shot.

Anklebreaker really enjoyed flying down the descent. I kept hearing “go faster stupid, trust me on this one”.

Anklebreaker liked riding in the sand. Very different feel when compared to road or grass.

Had to ask the park ranger to get a photo of me. Him and the cop were really skeptical at first. Yep. There are weirdos the take unis on hiking trails and ask for photos.

It feels good to go out into nature.

that picture is a bit like cursing on this forum :stuck_out_tongue:

Moesgaard museum, isn’t there that they have/had Grauballemanden? The dude that was found in the swamp. I believe I’ve been there, but I don’t remember the museum looking like that. Then again it must have been like 15 years ago now. Can’t remember everything.

I decided to give 89s a go again on my latest ride. And this is exactly what I was struggling with - Pedal strikes when turning.

Recently I’ve been riding 150mm cranks on the 36er… I pedal strike when the unicycle isn’t exactly 90 degrees from the ground

Also came as a surprise that I could ride just as fast as I could with 150s as I did with 100s. Felt more clunky of course, but going back to longer cranks reminded me of some of the plus sides of longer cranks :cowboy_hat_face:

The spectacular new building for the Moesgård Museum was opened in 2014.
And yes, you can see Grauballemanden (a bog body) there.
