First approximation is that required force is inversely proportional
to crank length. I.e. for a crank of 40 mm you need 150/40 (3.75)
times the force that you need with standard cranks.

You are a maniac! Loved the clip and can’t wait to see more. I would love to try it out at the Lifestyles race too!

Sure you can try it. On your night lap
Um, how about just taking it for a spin around the parking lot?
Ok Ok, well, they actually might be 25’s by then

That’s less than one inch! You might as well just go with the 36 in BC wheel.

I’d have nothing to sit on
Imagine if the frame broke… You’ld have a 36" ultimate wheel with 40mm cranks! ![]()
Unfortunately they will be harder. With the feet moving faster, it’s harder to put lots of force on them as they continue going around. As I’m sure Brian is finding out, once you get that wheel going, the pedals aren’t very reactive to what you try to do to them. It just kind of keeps going. On level ground, that is…
Yeah, that’s going to be the real challenge. Uphill, not so bad. Downhill? SCARY!!! Be sure to practice how to roll or otherwise protect yourself in a high speed dismount.
Thought i would resurect this thread, any more videos?

One more. TWNR ![]()
I am late on this thread as well, but that video of you riding with the 40s is crazy, very impressive.
Re: I have 40mm cranks on my Coker
I had somehow missed the video the first time around, even though I
didn’t miss the thread as such. Cool, it looks as if you’re coasting,
you seem to keep balance the same way, at least partially.

25mm cranks…
Funny this thread should come up. Just the other day a friend offered to mack me some mini-cranks after seeing this clip. Hopefully he’ll be able to make me some 25mm cranks for my coker. ![]()

I was curious to know what happened to the Uber short cranked Cocker.
Brian’s link to the video is dead. Any update guys ?
Brian got some great footage of it which is in the DVD “Training Wheel Not Required”. As for mine, this friend will still make them for me if I can find some old cranks to use.
Andrew
Great thread, Brian. I wish I could see the movie, but my puter doesn’t work .wmv files (or whatever they are). I’ll have to see the clip in your next DVD!
I have an idea about how to ride. Why not get a brake that you can operate by hand (on a short cord, or just on an extension)? Then you could use that for slight adjustments while you’re riding on straights and downs. You’d have to get used to squeezing this brake all the time – not just in emergencies; it would have to be part of your riding.
Just a thoughtl. Enjoy!
They were featured in Training Wheel Not Required, they won’t be in the next one
