Remember seeing first unicycles in the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade in 1967 or 67. First tried to learn to ride in 1976(?), the department store unicycle broke under my 14-year old weight. Friend got a 6’ Giraffe in 1979, and completed learning to ride on that. Joined Redford Township Unicycle Club in 1980 and started going to USA national meets (conventions). Helped get the IUF started in the early 80s; attended the first Unicon in 1984; haven’t missed any to date (Unicon 21). In late 1984 I moved to New York and helped host Unicon II there. Worked for the National Circus Project 1985 - 1995. Moved to California and discovered mountain unicycling on actual mountains (I’d been doing it in the flatter places since 1981). Thought up and hosted the world’s first “MUni Weekend” in 1996.
Still riding in 2024, mostly Road and Muni, and now looking forward to Unicon 22, somewhere in Austria!
