Who has completed a 100 mile ride?

my butt is sore just looking at this thread

I know that in Japan, at least back in the 80s/90s, they had an annual 100k race, with categories for 24" and 20"! Not sure about 100 mile races though, at least other than the 1987 one between Takayuki and Floyd Beattie. Also I canā€™t remember if there were any other riders in that race.

I was 59 about 5 months ago when I rode 100 miles in 9 hours 6 minutes 30 seconds. That was during my 24 hour record ride, it was just the first 100 miles.

Nice going, congrats, even though it was on a geared 36er. I should have included ā€œungearedā€ in my post.

UG: So you finished the century ride you were planning? GREAT! Canā€™t wait to read your report. Your comment above makes me curious about something which Iā€™m sure has already been kicked around in other threads so if you want to just link me, thatā€™s cool. Anyway, ever since you announced your plan to go for the sub-10-hour attempt, I kept asking myself the obvious question: " why doesnā€™t he just Schlumpify the 36er?" Does moving to the geared uni represent a break with some sort of unicycling purism; is it an easthetic heresyā€¦whatā€™s the deal? Clearly, itā€™s a different activity, and shouldnā€™t really be included in the same category as the non-geared century riders, but Iā€™m curious as to your personal motivation for sticking with the non-geared wheel. It canā€™t have anything to do with your riding ability, since youā€™ve clearly mastered both modesā€¦just wondering.

Thanks.

I just love spinning and doing as many revolutions as possible. But what Iā€™m not crazy about is the thought of falling at 20+mph, when doing so at 12 or 13mph would be bad enough! :o

What a Rush!

100.1 miles
12 hours start to finish, 10 hours ride time, 10.0 average speed

I rode in the MS150 in Frisco, TX. It is set up as a two-day ride with 85 miles today and 65 tomorrow. I left this morning with little idea how today was going to goā€¦ I knew I had at least 60 miles in me, but in the back of my mind I thought that if it went well, and I finished the 85 with some time on the clock and some legs left, Iā€™d add another 15 for my first unicycle century.

It was a brutal day, with much of it spent with very strong winds (20 MPH gusting to 30 MPH) coming straight at me or blowing from the side. By mile 56, I was ready to call it a day, when one of the young military recruits working the rest stop asked if Iā€™d PLEASE wait a few minutes for his mom to come back. She suffers from MS, and for some reason found my ride special. She was VERY excited to see me and repeatedly gave me hugs. That got me to the next rest stop at mile 70. Honestly, I surprised myself when I got back on at mile 70 to make the rest of the trip in, and arrived to a GREAT reception, but only should 82 miles on my speedometer. It was, though, only a little after 5:00 p.m., which gave me three hours to finish off a century. I took my time doing that and finished almost exactly 12 hours after I crossed the starting line (having spent 30 minutes or so hanging out at the finish), with almost exactly 10 hours of riding time.

Itā€™s a great sense of accomplishment to add my name to the list. In celebration, I think Iā€™m going to show up for tomorrowā€™s start, which begins with a lap on Texas Motor Speedway, a NASCAR track. When else am I going to get a chance to ride my unicycle for a lap on a NASCAR track??

Add me to the list: Jim Sowers - 101 miles, 6000 ft. vert. climb. On the road 10 hours, 18 minutes, in the saddle 9 hours 30 minutes. 36 GUni. Fremont Primavera 2013. Write-up to follow. DJed music the whole way  http://goo.gl/Cx6aL

Just add yourself. Nice job btw!

Jim Sowers - 2013-04-21, 6000ft. vert. climb. 36" Afro-Guni ,165mm
