webcast for tallest uni attempt

I just quote 'em, I don’t write 'em.

115-foot-tall bike

28’ is 8.53440 meters. That’s further than the 7.32 meters Sem rode on the 72 footer in 1980. However far Steve McPeak pedaled his 101 footer, he “rode” it zero feet.

If Sem rode 28’ with no signifcant tension on his support lines, he bettered his 1980 record in both distance and height. Also, if only enough chain for 30’ of riding was built in, he rode the cycle to the limit it was built for. Sounds very successful to me!

Congratulations! and wish I could have been there. Quite a reunion of unicyclists from yesterday and today!

For Semper-Uni, among those people you did not know were at least one of the USA’s founder members, the hosts of about 11 USA National meets/conventions, some former national and world champions, and many other interesting people from the history of unicycling.

I think 30 feet is enough to prove that he was actually riding it. Congratulations! Party time!

But you have to remember, that was on Fox. They only cover ‘real’ news, show ‘real’ reality shows, and the best dramas. Oh, never mind.

Are you sure it was the giraffe that was at a huge angle?

Congratulations to Sem for his record breaking ride!!
Way to go!!
As well, congratulations to all who helped to make the ride successful. That includes everyone who was able to attend.
Unfortunately that was not me.

dag nabbit!!!

Everyone should wear nametags at things like this for those of us who are likely to be familiar with thier faces…

New videos and pictures at semcycle.biz/record/

Congratulations Sem, Sem’s father (whose motivation and
determination is beyond question) and everyone else who
helped or just watched Sem set a new world’s record for
riding the tallest unicycle on planet earth (maybe even
the universe)!

Take a look at two new videos at http://www.semcycle.com/record/.
Click on the “picture gallery” link and watch these videos which were
just added on 6 Feb 2004. You’ll be glad you took a gander at these:

“bringin’ out the bike (video)”

“View from above (video)”

After that check out Jason’s pictures in the Album “jasons pics”.
They were added just a day earlier (5 Feb 2004) and consist of 145
pictures mainly of the setup, a few of the actual rides by Sem, a few
of people’s expressions while watching Sem’s ride (my assumption),
and several pictures of tearing down the setup and the cycle.

Some of these pictures show a few details about the 35 meter tall
unicycle that the Semcycle team built.

Various sections of the cable/chain drive can be seen in pictures 2, 3,
4, 7, 47, 48, 49, 53, 54, 55, 56, 58, 59, 60, 77, 78, 102, 109, 110,
117, 118, and 122.

One side of the I-beam safety cable’s wheels are shown in pictures 14
and 115.

Picture 20 is excellent one of the cycle laying on its saw horses!

Picture 42 is of the cycle being lofted up near the top of the Silver
Dome.

Pictures 71, 95, 99, 100, 101 and 105 show Sem riding the 35 meter
unicycle!

Picture 132 shows a clear view of the wheel and lower sprocket. You
can actually count almost all the 42 teeth of this sprocket.

Note that “Leo Vdw’s pics (finished)” album was just updated today
(7 Feb 2004). It is the last Album in the gallery (now on page 3).

Please add your comments about any of the videos and pictures.

Sincerely,

Ken Fuchs <kuchs@winternet.com>
