Unicycle.com New Product Launch

LOVE the new Impulse. It’s awesome to see UDC the “big wheel” to the next level! Hopefully this will get more people onto one.

Glad I’ve been waiting to upgrade from my OG Coker (that’s Original Gangsta for all you young’uns).

That’s not correct. Corbin took a grinder to the Nightrider frame.

Had he done a proper machining job it’d have been round to thousandths of an inch.

Big difference there.

But, as tholub said, the bearings may have failed either way.

Is it just me, or is the only new product the Impulse (nothing against it, I think it is awesome)? I was really hoping for at least some new colors of the Nimbus MUni’s…

i just want a dang cf base.

ohh…theyre in stock. i had it on email notification when it’s back but i never got notified…hmmmmmmm…to order or not to order. will udc drill them for me if i paid extra or something? i’m too scared to mess it up

I am liking the new handle. You could definitely stick some model rocket engines in that rear tube :stuck_out_tongue:

And the new 36er is almost the same weight as my 26er in bomber Gazz mode. I am curious as to how the aluminum spindles hold up.

Ahhh… well… I was hoping for some more colors of the Nimbus muni, guess I’ll just have to paint it myself…

The new cycles are pretty awesome though.

OMG SELL THE HANDLE BY ITSELF!!! it better be up in a few days >> I have a birthday coming up, and I’ve got my eye on that handle!!

With the new releases I was looking at other countries to see what all was new, since UDC US doesn’t have a “new products” page, and got curious about the price differences. Being in the market for a 36”er, I was focusing mainly at the new Impulse and decided to see how the price of it in other countries compared to the US when converted into US dollars. I was a little surprised at the results, and was wondering if there is an obvious reason for the large fluctuations in prices that I don’t see. Are these made outside the US and are just cost more to bring into the country?

I haven’t compared any other products, so this is just limited to the new Nimbus Impulse. Let me know if there are obvious errors, it is midnight here, but here’s what I got using current exchange rates:

Nimbus Impulse:
US - 930 (USD) = 930 (USD)
UK – 560 (GBP) = 807 (USD)
Sweden – 5995 (SEK) = 765 (USD)
Denmark – 4900 (DKK) = 813 (USD)
New Zealand – 1299 (NZD) = 887 (USD)
Canada – 875 (CAD) = 837 (USD)

I didn’t see the Impulse listed on the German, Australian, or Korean UDC websites. I was just curious. Thanks for any input.

I guess some of the stores have a higher or lower profit margin, also shipping them would be expensive.

I like the look of the new 36’’, handle looks pritty versatile. Is it likely that UDC will sell the hub with the disk brake seperatly?

you also want to look at the currancie exchange rates of your bank.
i think the price differences wil not be that much afteral than;)

and looking at the euro compared to the us dollar.
a month ago it was almost 1.5 dollar for 1 euro
now it is 1.23 dollar for 1 euro

I’m keen to get the new 36er, and I also want to know if the hub will fit KH and how much abuse it can take?

Yes you can put a schlumpf is a Nightrider frame, but one with 42mm bearings! You have to bend the frame in to match the hub, then grind off some metal from the inner lip (I use a power file), then tweak the bearing housings to be sure that they are square to the hub.

It does work perfectly well, this is what I did for the LEJOG ride.

Roger

Great to see the new products you came up with! I wonder if that new hub would fit my cf frame with shims? Would it be a lot of a weight difference compared to the suzue? And would it hold up to some rooty xc riding?
If I should decide to swap hubs I’d get another rim for it too. Any recommendations for something light but robust that works well for a 2.4" tire?

About the Nightrider for Schlumpf subject: How about making a batch of Nightrider frames that are compatible right out of the box with no additional modifications required? Because I think people are afraid to do it wrong and consequently messing up the Schlumpf bearings. This was my main reason to go for a KH frame.

The handle looks cool too. Will it be available seperately and if so, what would it cost?

Just one more question: Is the Eclipse frame compatible with 2.1" tires like he Gusset Pimp or the Primo?

It should be but we have not tired it yet.

Roger

What frame’s will the eclipse hub fit in? and how strong is it?

The bearing housing catches on the inside of the hub. (I have got it working, but took a LOT of work)

Roger

I was just looking at the new eclipse frames :

200mm - 576g
300mm - 660g
400mm - 704g
500mm - 895g

Is there a reason for the 500mm version to be nearly 200g more for 10cm of metal? 300mm to 400mm only adds 44g and 200mm to 300mm adds 84g.

Do you get your scales from ebay? Or am I missing something and actually you are reinforcing different models differently?

Brendan, who shall stop dreaming about unicycling and go and revise for his exams.

So you grinded down the bearing housings? Can you post a picture so I can have an idea of how much material had to be removed? Thanks!

No they are not dodgy scales, they are high end Postoffice scales that we use calibration weights to check.

The problem is that there are always variation on the frames. These weights are the actual weights to the gram of the ones I took from the box. When I get more time I will do an average for you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Roger

We have not succeeded in breaking any of the prototypes… even though we have tried! I know they are nothing like as strong as CrMO spindles, they are holding up very well.

The hubs will only fit in 42mm frames and they need to be narrow… so basically they will fit in steel frames if you can narrow them.
