Does it matter if the frame is put on backwards? Don’t see why it would
Technically, no, but it is likely to trick you thusly causing mistakes.
Putting the frame or the wheel backwards means the cranks are the wrong way round and you might unscrew the pedals
But if everything except the frame is the right way, including the saddle, does it still matter?
The cranks are connected to the hub, not the frame. If you point the frame and seat backwards. You will most likely ride in the direction that the seat points to, so putting your right foot on the left pedal
Exactly
I was out for a uni ride when I noticed that the guy I rode with had a uni with the brake on the right side. But an inboard disc… Turns out he had the saddle the wrong way around, so the rest of the uni moved backwards. That explained why the pedals got loose…
It depends. Frame is not fully symmetrical.
Frame might have mounting points for the brakes. Since unicyclists do not typically do hard brake, the direction is probably not critical.
Frame has a cut to tighten seat post. I do not feel that critical, but do we have any data about?
V-frames can be highly asymmetrical.
Try to put Hatchet frame reversed.
Etc.
You’re 100% right. But most uni frames are indeed symmetrical, except for the slit (and the corresponding clamp) and the brake tab(s).
I imagine riding a Hatchet reversed resulting in sore thighs.
On a normal frame without brake, does it matter? The seatpost slot could still be in the front
I think your question is answered above. Why do you consider putting your frame reversed?
I don’t, I am just curious if it matters
It does.
– Dad, why do you always drive on the right? Why don’t you use all the road?
– Our vehicle code requires us to drive on the right.
– But if there is no low enforcement her, why do you still drive on the right?
– Our beams are configured for the right side, and our steering wheel is on the left. Our car is better suited to drive on the right.
– But we don’t need lights during the day! If we would have a car with the steering in the middle, would you drive on the left?
– No, the other side of the road is for cars driving the opposite direction!
– But if we do not see cars there, and there are no low enforcement, and our lights are off, and we have a car with the steering in the middle, would you drive on the left?
– No! If we do not see the cars, it doesn’t mean there are no cars there!
– But if we do not see cars there, and there are no cars there, and there are no low enforcement, and our lights are off, and we have a car with the steering in the middle, is it safe to drive on the left?
– …
On an Internet discussion board you will always find someone willing to tell you “Yes”. You can find support to remove R-L stickers, install plastic cranks, begin learning to unicycle on a 7’ giraffe, and even LMB will not allow you to use a helmet.
But, honestly, the right answer is “No”. Do not ride your unicycle with the frame reversed. There are some technical and non-technical reasons for having your frame installed correctly.
@ManiusTerentiusPullus certainly has the right age to be the child in your story.
But this same attitude got my wife to fail her driving exam 2 times. “Like why do I need to stop at a STOP sign when there are no cars around.” In NL the police don’t really check this. They are more interested in fining speeders, but still.
Engineer’s wisdom:
Young people create things…
because they didn’t know that they can not be created.
Meaning that it simply works when you try it even though it shouldn’t work.
I do believe that Manius is not the child in my story. “My child” is much younger and immature. I expect Manius to understand the hyperbolic nature of the satire above.
I have the same unicycle , look on the back of your cranks mine are stamped q ax. I actually bought it for my son to learn to ride on during COVID lock downs. It s older but well made and has an isis hub
Indeed they are QU-AX cranks (These ones specifically as found on UDC UK)
The 26er and 20 after cleaning any traces of certain stickers from them. I guess I didn’t remember the 20 well enough. The rims are different shades of blue after all.
Didn’t you have any clean L R stickers you can send to @Wheelou
I think us unicyclists should collect all of our L R stickers and send them to Wheelou. It is gonna be a piece of art seeing all of the stickers together.
