What do you have in mind? If I’d engrave, it would be ugly with a sharp object and striping the letters into it, which I don’t intend to.
I have an engraving machine. Could turn two small round plates on the lathe, then add the letters on the engraving machine.
but then those plates need to be welded onto the wheel?
I wrapped the middle section of the pedals on mine with electrical tape. Red is Right, Lilac is Left.
Ok, with the lighting from the top of the picture I almost couldn’t see the difference! ![]()
In real life it’s much more obvious.
Yeah I would imagine so but it took me aq moment when I looked at the picture here.
Nah, glue or even double sided tape should do, depending how exposed they are. If they are at a spot where you keep kicking against them while UPDing, it‘s better to use epoxy than double sided tape…
If I remember correctly, your UW uses square steel, so there isn‘t even the issue of sticking something flat onto a curved surface (plus, the plates should be thin enough to be adapted to a curved surface, if the radius isn‘t very small).
The new Ultimate Wheel is what it should be now: dark purple metallic frame and pedals that are in style with it. With a bit of practise I will soon be flying around in town. Im very grateful that @Ulkicycling has built it.
That looks amazing - and I love the multi hole ‘cranks’ - genius!
Nicely done ![]()
Neat! You might want to let out the air and center the tube valve to a straight position ![]()
I like the color too, it is a great choice. With the saved money (from diy) you can buy a 10" UW ![]()
The tire certainly went once around the world
I have the same seat and also no spooner. Aren’t spooners obligatory for freewheelers?
This is the unicycle i learned on (fixed hub) and rode exclusively two years. The tire has almost certainly not gone more than 3000 km and comparing that to my 36" nimbus nightrider light (?) tire which has at least 4500 km on it I think that the Quax luxus tire is in fact not luxus.
What do you mean by spooner?
You essentially fix a metal plate or a ‘spoon’ on the end of the brake handle that you can grab it easily even on bumpy sections without sliding off.
Spooner, look at first image.

Interesting, i might look into that at a later date. I wouldnt know wether it’s strictly needed or not since this was my very first ride on the new wheel and first time trying a brake on freewheel. It was quite strange. I only went 2 km since some adjustments are still necessary.
I also have one for fun, but I don’t think you need it for UW training. To learn UW, you can simply ride SIF and reach your hand as far as possible while holding the seat.
