Some sweet 36er muni today! I even was in high gear for a bit on the smoother single track. The MountainUni brakes are awesomely smooth!
Sorry about that - but they seem happy here, so you have to visit Denmark if you want to see them again…
visit
Yup… its in the plan for next year
Those are pretty big for man-made hills - is there more story behind them?
The hillls were created in the period 1968-78 from 600-700,000 truckloads (depending on the source) of soil and rubble from excavations. The highest point is 67 m above sea level (45 m above terrain). You can find some more info about the area in this folder: http://www.naturstyrelsen.dk/NR/rdonlyres/5751CFE0-0A83-4040-8888-9258A2D2D230/0/VestkovenUKA3.pdf
And here is a video from a MTB race on the hills:
And unicyclists in Florida (highest elevation about 20 meters)!
Those don’t look like artificial cows to me…
No, they are very lifelike - it is only the taste that give them away…
(But I didn’t write that the cows were artificial, now did I? ;))
From this morning’s ride. This trail overlooks Catalina Island and some expensive real estate!
ha ha, very timely discussion… I am relocating from Scotland to Copenhagen at the end of the year… Nice to know I will find highland cows again!
Now, not so nice to see what the highest point in Denmark looks like
Oh well, I knew it before committing to the move! I’m sure there will be other ways to enjoy the uni:o
Klaus & other unicyclists in Denmark - I’ll be in touch once I have settled down…

Paco was having more fun than me!

Wow, what fabulous photos you and Aspen mike post.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Sweet pics turtle, we are off to a good start for ski season, most resorts will be open this weekend with good conditions.
Turtle - amazing pics, especially the second with the clouds below you!
Mike - how’s the base? That snow looks like some heavy mashed potatoes! There have already been some bad slides in Utah, with a notable fatality (JP).

Base is good, enough for top to bottom skiing-almost a meter up top. Typical intermountain snowpack setting up, facets on the bottom which will lead to sketchy conditions, as unfortunately we are seeing already. How about back east?

Nah. An unusually early (pre-Halloween) snowfall, with the leaves still on, brought down a bunch of trees and knocked out power. A couple VT places opened up a trail or two, but nothing since then.

Going sliding tomorrow on the local WSOD, kinda silly, but it’s something to do; I also need to test a new tele binding I built
Heading to Utah next Tuesday, got family passes at Brighton this year; daughter is going to school at UU, such a lucky girl.

JP’s death was unnecesary, conditions were rife, good day for staying home, you only live once unless I missed a memo. It seems like the more extreme folks get, the more numb they become to risk. Maybe I’m getting old, but when I started feeling like I was too close to the edge while WW boating, I ended up backing off.
Steve, where do you ski/board?

Extreme doesn’t have to mean STUPID, there was a reason Snowbird was not open.

Word.

Ben, I spent three winter living at Goldminers Daughter, one of Alta’s base lodges back in the early nineties. That was just nirvana and I skied 150 days/year. I alpined since I was little, and raced slalom/GS in high school, but ended up pretty much just tellying.
Now, I mostly XC with my family out of, or near to, our house. I got spoiled at Alta with no commute, and now I can’t stand all the schlepping and rigamarole associated with resort skiing. There are a few back-country destinations within an hour of here, (near NY/MA border) and that’s what I do if I’m going to drive someplace.
Kitchener Unicyclists were in the Kitchener Waterloo Santa Claus parade! I’m so excited that I was able to make this a reality. These are only the riders that could make it out today, we’re about 16 strong at this point. We’re a small group, but it’s growing into something really awesome!
