Pictures of your latest ride continued

I like systemd hell though… I switched to it a long while before Arch dropped support for their old init, so learned a lot about writing my own units (as some of the packages didn’t yet ship with them  )

And this weirdly is by far not the first time I’ve spoken to unicyclists about Linux.

OMG! Thread hijack! This is now the Linux Nrdz Open Discussion Thread! buwahahahaha! Yeah, I like your approach: seeing the new init system as a challenge and doing your own customization. Very cool. I’m too lazy, and after I saw how system perf was enhanced by actually compiling everything against my own hardware under Crux, I was hooked.

…ok, returning thread to uni pix…

Yeah, another warm 17°C summer day!
Today we rode ungeared, 29", training high cadence… sounds easy, but I can assure you, I had a hard time keeping up with the kid (as might be visible in the second picture, while riding along the Hafrsfjord).

On holiday in France north of Paris in Foret-de-Retz. The place has a nice mountain bike track with forest paths, rolling hills and some nice climbs and descents over dried mud (in summer), cobblestone paths and roads with lots of potholes. During world war 1 there were battles in this area during the first and third battle for the Aisne river and there are still trenches and large craters from shelling visible beside the dirt tracks.

Michele Manna from Santa Cruz drove through Ashland, OR and I had the pleasure of municycling with her…and by “municycling,” I mean “I walked my unicycle through the trails while Michele killed it.” I’m really out of unicycling shape. Hopefully next time she rolls through town I won’t be so slow and boring. Nonetheless, I had a great time!

I feel you. If I’m not in good enough shape I don’t ride well, UPD more & falls are scarrier. So for me to ride Muni well I must train off the uni. Mostly core and legs. I shoot more for endurance than strength.

Legs: Squat machine 5 sets of 20 at a min of twice my weight.
Core: 30 leg lifts; left, right, L, etc for 30 min w/ 10 lb/pair ankle weights.
2x/ week, plus my regular riding, is enough for maintenance for me.

I don’t do any sort of training other than uni and bike (And I rarely bike… It’s really crazy to see my 36er speed creeping up to the same level as my 2-wheeler speed…) But that’s awesome to hear. I wonder what other exercises help with uni, in terms of increasing performance (I’m mostly interested in road 36ering, but I do some XC muni too).

Sun & Son on the coast…

Beautiful day out there… had a hard time working around all the people … managed to get this shot. Heard a “You’re Crazy!” (We were on a breakwater with 8ft. drops on either side).

On my lunch break!

Had a superb riding muni day at noontime! I hit the familiar trails that used to give me a hard time; today with ease.
I found a couple of new trails, much, much steeper. A really good challenge. So steep that it took me 30 to 40 ft of shoe sliding, to stop when I had to make bail. Scary at times too, being so close to the edge, there was this one UPD. So determined I was, that I promised myself 3 other tries to get it right as I walked back up (too steep to climb, and wanted to conserve energy for the downhill challenge.
Whoohooo! On my fourth attempt, I did over half a mile of loose, rocky and really steep stuff without the scary UPD! YEEHAAH! I did it!

Then, couple of mins later, should you say, I was being too careless and cocky and tripped on a dip and landed hard on my wrist. Thank goodness for my Hillbilly Wristguards, or I could have been in a bloody mess on the way back:D

And oh, my Knards perform flawlessly as I lowered the psi for increased traction. My Converse, a little slippery on the loose rocks, but over all, really good feel for the pedal, good foot control and ankle support. It feels good to be in zone and in this case it’s crucial to avoid injuries.

Mom with kid, on a sleepy sunny afternoon… about 2000m high

:pI was looking for the mom and kid..:stuck_out_tongue:

Gorgeous!

We are starting a weekly ride nearby Boston and we got 3 riders twice in a row (for the first 2 times).

Fun time

After a crazy busy summer filled with trips, work and a foot injury I finally got back on the trusty old 29er. Other that hitting my head on a low hanging tree branch it was a nice ride.

Dude, the crack on the head probably did you some good. .

36er trials in the backyard:

Photographer James Richard Kao had seen me in a recent magazine profile and got in touch, asking if I’d be interested in doing a photo shoot. We met at Bluff Cove in the Palos Verdes area near Redondo beach on 7/28/15, and we shot until sundown. It happened to be very high tide and more than once we got splashed pretty good, but we had a fun time and I think he got some great shots! Here are just two of his photos from the session:

last sunday was the last ride for the “tour de france”
so a friend of mine built this improbable contraption (with the french colors :))
(the unicycle is not part of the machine)
now guess what is this machine doing !

28 July 2015 - Silver Mountain, Idaho, USA

.

It was a lazy day of riding at Silver Mountain Bike Park with almost no climbing and all the downhill you wanted. Once up the gondola from Kellogg to the top. Four times up Chair 3 and a ride back down to the gondola base.

7000 vertical downhill in 5 hours on a KH 26.

Quote of the day – after asking which way to “Jackass”, as this picture was being taken I over heard a radio transmission between upper bike park personnel and bike park base as I start down my first run, “Let him go where every he wants.”
