I haven’t been riding for a few weeks, the weather was mild today , not to cold and no wind so I decided to venture out. We have snow but there was dry pavement to ride so I took advantage. I rode my 26er, it’s the first time I have shown this guy some love in a while. I think I’m going to keep this one handy for days just like today this winter.
I used to have a DIY mudguard on my Oregon. The V-frame lends itself to fixing some PET bottle by means of cable ties. The noise it made when it hit the ground would let everyone around me know I made a UPD
. I eventually got rid of it
Yesterday evening, I’ve taken my muni for a quick night ride, and I made a cool encounter.
It is the second encounter with an amphibian for this uni (first one was a toad during GMC)
Awesome. My dad used to live in French Belgium for a few years and he also managed to take some pictures of such a fire salamander. I’ve never been so lucky.
Did you build you unicycle by your own?
It is indeed a nice unicycle build
Greetings from Hamburg btw.
No, I bought this frame second hand from Quentin Dulac, a French rider. It’s explained here: Post a picture of your unicycle(s) - #713 by louis_dbl

The build is a bit different form the post because I added a Brake Fast 2.0 and changed the size of the wheel (but I keep everything to mount a G36 for competition and a G29 to enjoy the city)
Do you live in Kleve? I “only” live 45mins driving from there. Are there any nice routes outside of town you recommend for unicycling? I am not into very technical rides.
Last weekend’s ride: about 5” (12.5cm) of snow! Unfortunately the tire wasn’t up to it. I’m going to have to get a proper studded tire, aren’t I? Sigh. In January my 29er (Teravail Coronado) was fine (in much less snow), but the g24 (Vee Crown Gem) couldn’t hold enough traction in these conditions.
Half a mile in a half hour, which was a lot of mount - two revolutions - UPD. A few longer stretches; mounting under the bridge let me get a good start that lasted a few hundred yards a couple of times. But a lot of good practice on centering my balance while freemounting. I apparently lean back too far and compensate easily when there’s enough traction… had to adjust that to really center myself in the snow!
Life is unfair! I‘ve got a proper tyre - but no snow ![]()
Despite the less than ideal tyre your ride must‘ve been fun. And most of all: quite a workout. ![]()
So I ended up getting a studded tire for my 26”, and I’m happy to report studded tires are absolutely the real deal. The bike trails here are almost completely covered in sheet ice thanks to some freezing rain, but the studded tire handles it surprisingly well. Riding carefully, of course ![]()
Yesterday I had a great Muni ride with my Unicorn on my 24” Muni. It was very warm, too warm for December. 100 mm Cranks are a bit short for the Muni ride.
Welcome to the club!
Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for snow (and ice) ![]()
No snow & ice here, but I still had a nice nighttime ride with my most consistent unicycling partner.
Jelly, I want a Unipup.
Today did a bit longer route. A bike path of about 10km where the second half is very narrow, hilly and with protruding tree roots. Had to stop a few times to catch my breath and to take pics. This is the 29”er
I sure hope you used the road to the right! It‘s way more fun. Plus, it‘s wider, too ![]()
