Thanks Lance… this time all the props go to the photographers who want to stay by the race trails whole day to take them for us.
Foolproof way to get riding buddies
Over the years, many of you have bemoaned the fact that you are solo riders with no buddies to be found. Here is my foolproof plan to get riding buddies: Get Married (technically optional, but recommended), have lots of kids, wait a few years, teach them to ride, repeat as necessary.
My oldest is home from college and the kids and I went for a ride. My youngest is on the b*ke. She is trying to master the unicycle, but is not there yet. Anyway, I am the fat old guy in the white shirt. My 3 sons are on uni’s to my left.
Of course, my kids all grabbed the good equipment first. They are riding (2) 29s and a 36. I am on a 24" muni with knobby tires that go all wonky on the pavement. You would think they would give the fat old man a break.
We live in a great riding neighborhood. Quite a few miles of hilly side streets. When the whole troupe is out, it usually makes for quite the impact in the neighborhood. The way the neighborhood kids come running, you would think we were driving the ice cream truck. Anyway, we did about 3 miles and it was great to be fooling around with the whole gang. Still need to get the wife up on one wheel.
And what is your wife riding? ![]()
Best regards,
Sanne
Looks like a plan
And a lot of fun for you ![]()
Rabbit Lake Ride
A great sunny weekend in AK, Riding along the Rabbit Lake trail that just opened to wheels after decades of closure. Plenty of UPD’s! ![]()
Great story Kerv, wish we had a like button.![]()
Good work raising a family that rides together. ![]()
Thumbs up here from another fat old bastard.
That seems to be the best way to get unicycle buddies. I will visit my gf in Thailand soon. I’ve already told her that I will only marry her if she learns to unicycle ![]()
Nice paint job!
Where did you ride this 32er?
Thanks. If you saw the paint up close you wouldn’t be saying it’s nice. ![]()
This is a trail in a place called north fork park in northern Utah.
I’ve seen it up close. It looks awesome. Now if only you had a wheel with orange spokes… ![]()
You haven’t seen it up close since I put the seat clamp on.
Powder coated spokes? Never again!
More and more kids in the area keep trying to call my unicycle a tricycle. I guess they know it’s not a bike, but the only other word in their database must be “tricycle”, so here you go kids!
Saw a crowd of screaming teenagers while I was riding my 20" by the river at 96th Street, and for once it wasn’t about the weird guy on one wheel. A very brave girl then pulled this big chunk of smelly dead fish out from among the rocks so that we could all get a look at it.
After a bit of research, I figured out that this was an Atlantic sturgeon, an endangered species. This one appears to be among the many getting chopped up by boat propellers as a result of repair work on the Tappan Zee Bridge. All my life I have wanted to see one of these big, beautiful, ancient creatures, and never would have imagined it could happen during a unicycle ride!
My boy, Aaron, riding near the Idaho Falls. There was a busload of Japanese tourists there just amazed at the four of us riding our unicycles and snapping pictures of us.

Oh - take care of the loose shoelaces -
Best regards,

I keep telling him that. He’s at that stage where nothing Dad says is true. And it’s even tripped him up before.
well yes, i second that, so far i managed to stay away from the really nasty crashes but i smacked into the pavement once because of it. Cutting them short will also do the trick.
