I recently damaged my knees pretty badly after a drop on my Kris Holm fork. I was wearing pads, but unfortunately they didn’t protect me very well. I think I’ll go for a ride after lunch, in very wet conditions.
Yes, I know that Problem. I use a normal Front door Key but it is very dangerous for the Front door Key. My Front door Key is allright after that Tour. I also forget the Front door Key and go out, that isn’t a good solution.
When I’m on longer trips, I usually take the “basic” tool kit with me. Ideally, a 2. 8 mm open-end wrench and a patch for the inner tube would be ideal. The whole thing weighs about 1 KG. As an additional option, I carry a tube.
Bolt and nuts (though I’m not sure how they found their way in)
Pill against headache
Paper clip
This weighs in at ~390g plus a small pump at ~110g → ca. 500g, and already much heavier than I’d like. The 10 / 15mm wrench used to be a 14 / 15mm wrench that I cut and grinded to accept 10mm nuts. The allen keys I mostly collected at a pawn shop. The screw is the one that was missing and that I had to replace when I reassembled my Flansberrium. The black washer / spacer is …hm, where could that be from? I don’t know. Don’t ask me why the paper clip is there, but at least it’s not heavy .
Aren’t fatter wheels also more difficult when dealing with camber? I find it hard work on the hatchet when there is camber. The narrower tires on lighter uni’s are then easier to control.
ja. camber kills control an fun.
But the tire(shape, pattern and TPI) makes a difference - big time.
JumboJim, Minion or the Knard are no fun to ride. Hardest of em all is Surlys Knard (Gnard?). It is hard to control even on a bike.
Lou, BFL, AllMighty or the Jonny are way easier to handle.
Give them a try bevore sagging the FatMuni project.
I wrote trousers but had shorts in my mind. I hate it when the ends of my shorts or 3/4 trousers or whatever they’re called get caught by the crown (one of the reasons I prefer uni crowns to other designs). And my unis, are far from having such “bull type” crowns like yours. But fortunately that is a rare occurence.
Today it was a very wet ride but I do 178 Elevation Meters and over 5 Km with the 24" Muni. It was a great ride, the only for this weekend. The Weather is very bad but I hope next Week it will be get better with the Weather ,say the Forcast.
I’ve been to these trails once before during the winter. It was my first time there and I didn’t do much other than ride a little beginner loop once or twice and slipping on some ice This time however was sooo much better. Instead of riding the 26x4.8 that came with the Hatchet, I got to properly ride the 27.5x2.5 I had built up while the snow was melting. The fat tire is a sight to behold, but for me muni is tiring enough by itself without pushing a big wheel around. I felt much more at home on the lighter wheel!
I did some practice laps on the beginner loop just to get a feel for things and figure out roughly what tire pressure I wanted to run. Eventually I tackled my first proper trail and things went great! After running a section a couple times I let myself loosen up a bit and picked up a bit of speed. I mostly got tripped up on some roots and sketchy loose inclines, but thankfully I had no significant (bad) UPDs on the trails.
I say on the trails… My one injury from this excursion happened on, you guessed it, smooth level pavement. So there’s a bike wash station in the parking area, and there was some water runoff on the sidewalks. I had the brilliant idea of making a sharp turn where it was wet and, well…
You can see where I lost traction and fell Thankfully I was okay other than some light scrapes on my elbow and a sore knee. It happened right in front of a few people too; they checked in on me which I appreciate. That must’ve been something they weren’t expecting to see for sure. I had a very similar fall my first time here, except it was on ice. Deja vu?
There was also some paved trails that I explored on my 36er. I did try doing some of the trails I did on my 27.5, though I decided against doing much more than a “little bit”. I’ll wait until I get more familiar with doing muni.
I do a lot of driving around here at my job.
And i see all them castles or whats left of them at the hilltops.
And then i remember you noticing that at rtb 2009.
Just had an evening ride in the forest this evening. 10km on the 24” QuAx. The quax seat isnt the most comfy but the wheel certainly is. I ought to have KH Fusion Freeride seat on all of them, but that is gonna be too expensive.
