All the tourists wanted to take photos with your Penny and blatantly ignored my poor, puny 36er ![]()
No he finished the 116 km loop because he really wanted to and it was more conveient to get the ferry from there. But the main reason I believe is the former. ![]()
Once I had done the 100km, I lost my appetite for more as my knee was really starting to be problematic and I did not want to damage myself.
how long did it take yous to do 116km? I wouldn’t even ride that far on my 2-wheeler.
Only @idleboy did the whole 116.73 km and he (according to Strava) had a moving time of 6 hours and 56 minutes (with 1085 m elevation gain). I should add that this was not a race. He’s capable of much faster.
(as is @SirCranky)
Strava lists me as 100.91 km with 6 hours and 16 minutes moving time but I also disabled autopause, which one the on hand probably messes up my average speed (because we had breaks where it tracked me walking around slowly). On the other hand at one point during a longer stop, I did manually pause and then forgot to unpause resulting in losing 4-5km off my route. ![]()
@SirCranky is listed as 103.52 km in 6 hours and 8 minutes of moving time.
@PedalSprell Should have been with us but made up various poor excuses. ![]()
You could, it would be an easy cruise on a two wheeler, which is why I thought of using the penny. I am inherently lazy!
I actually wanted to join you unannounced in Askim (after 80 km), but you were pushing faster than I expected so my train would have arrived after you guys.
Also, I am taking the hint now:
Oh shame, that would have been an awesome surprise! ![]()
P.S. Instead of replying to me, post that picture of your latest ride. I am waiting!
I also keep getting those messages, but then yous others cannot attribute. Like I will attribute to your train arriving later. It is good evidence of your poor excuses. As you could see Ruari was already way behind, so you would have easily been able to overtake him.
We had a lovely Easter round in Oslo today! @UniMyra had finally finally taken the dust off his 36er, @SirCranky had finally put som long 100mm cranks on his 29er and I had finally put some handlebars on my 24".
So we set off from the top of the Opera with one goal in mind: To conquer the city of Oslo on three wheels.
However, it quickly turned out that @UniMyra shows absolutely no regard for traffic lights. Or cars. So we just plunged on after him best we could.
And we already know that @SirCranky shows absolutely no regard for speed limits,
so we soon ended up in the city Jail…
Where I had to bail out my fellow riders.
It is always such a joy to ride with others! We try to arrange a trip once a month, preferably the first Sunday.
Watching that video of @SirCranky , one word popped up in my mind, and kept any other words from forming…”How?”
That hill is right outside my workplace. It is much steeper than it looks here. The video has completely flattened it.
Looks like you had a great time. Now I sort of regret not joining you (dere)!
Jeez I feel so silly the way I take downhills when seeing @SirCranky going down that hill. I ride superslowly trying to keep my balance, to the point I stand still and hop off. But if I were to try it that way, it would certainly send me flying.
That second photo! And of course, the vid
. I guess those bearings are shot after that descent ![]()
Seems to me, you guys arrange a trip every other day. Good for you! And good for Oslo (except maybe for UniMyra’s disregard for traffic rules…
).
That video of SirCranky going down the hill… He was movin’ ![]()

We have tried to time as many meetups as we can now around Easter
as Cranky Crew is actually a bit spread out across Norway.
You wouldn’t think anything would surprise @SirCranky but he was actually a bit shocked by @UniMyra s “efficient urban navigation”. (Tbh, there weren’t actually much traffic yesterday, as 75% of Oslos population is out of town for Easter.)
The only other time I have seen him raise his eyebrows is the when he first saw me balancing my 29er on my chin. ![]()
The exact same words actually popped into my mind, but rather when watching him racing up hills
Here is the full video of @SirCranky tackling one of Oslos steepest hills:
According to Strava he raced up that hill at 15.7 km/h.
A hill the rest of us gave up on. It is so fun and inspiring to ride with him. I will certainly try to climb small hills straight with speed now. I will even try to lean more forward in short downhills.
Maybe slightly mad too?

Yes but not slightly
Today was my second test ride on the g24 I laced a couple weeks ago. I was going to ride it on flat trails again this week after last week’s fun but 3 miles in to flats, I couldn’t wait any longer and rode over to the light muni trails on the other side of the creek.
I’m pretty terrible at muni but slowly getting the hang of it. This uphill refused to let me ride it up…
… but a while later I made it about a third of the way back down the same before UPDing and I’m calling that progress ![]()
![]()
You even have the means to see someone raising their eyebrow while you’re balancing a uni on your chin
You must really be good at it ![]()
He’s a monster! Simple as that…
