Happy New Year you Wonderful Unicyclists! :star_struck::tada:

Riding into the new year, totalling 1337 km in 2024. Photo taken 00:04 after this years first UPD on a curb with a possible snakebite!

And I can inform that a ride started in 2024 and ended in 2025 will count towards the 2024 Strava statistics

I like the picture with both unicycle and fireworks! :fireworks:
Best regards and happy new year from Sanne

Thanks! The crowds seemed to really like the combination of fireworks, snow and a unicycle. They kept wooping and high fiving me!

I just squeezed in a final 2024 ride not too long ago… Didn’t get any pictures but it was a great ride  Looking back on 2024, I went a little crazy with building up my unicycle fleet. Now hopefully in 2025 I’ll get around to doing some crazier stuff on my unicycles. I’ve got some great plans that have been kicking around in my head…

Happy New Years from Minnesota

A good way to celebrate the turn of the year!

Here are pics from my last ride in 2024:

I followed the sledge trail (“Fox Run”) from Wengernalp to Wengen (Switzerland). 5km of fun :grinning:. I had only one fall after the first 30 meters - deep “valleys” and high “mountains” that were formed because everybody had to brake at this particular spot - and a couple UPDs. Except for a second similar stretch I could ride the entire distance. I’d say the challenge was a perfect match for my skill and fitness levels. Would’ve loved to ride the trail a second time right away, but my muscles started to tremble a bit towards the end, so that would have been a bad idea.
My knees did better than I expected, but I had sore muscles for the next three days, so my trusty Oregon had to stay in the cellar among sledges and skis:

But the next day, the last day of my stay in Wengen, my legs were mostly fine again, and I did the same trail. I even started at Kleine Scheidegg, which added another 2km. It was a bit windy and the weather was dull, so no pics from my first ride in 2025. Those first 2km are cool if you want to prove a point, that unis can be faster than sledges …really, it’s way too flat overall to be fun to ride a sledge, in my opinion. But on a uni it’s prettxy enjoyable; some camber to fight, but that went better than I expected. Something else was also way better than I anticipated: no sore muscles at all after the second ride!

Lots of fun, and I encountered lots of happy people; they were all smiling or laughing or giving me a thumbs up - ok, some were staring at me in disbelief, but as a unicyclist you’re used to this, right?

Really nice Pictures and it sounds that you ride with a lot of Fun. That’s really important to have good weather and a lot of Fun when you’re ride in the snow. In my Town at the moment it’s to slipery to ride the Unicycle.

All you need is a studded tire. I’m serious. It makes a world of difference!
As a bonus, unless you’re riding on snow the tire makes so much noise that you’re very unlikely to have to deal with pedestrians blocking your way because they didn’t hear you sneaking up from behind . Ok, that wasn’t very serious any more, but it’s true nonetheless.
And yes, those rides on the sledge trail were all about fun. I intended to have a break or two, just to enjoy the scenery. But the urge to ride was so strong that I immediately continued the ride as soon as I was finished taking some pictures of my Oregon .
The best thing about all of this is: I finally found something to do while staying in Wengen - I’m not very fond of mass tourism and don’t really like the village, but for familiy reasons I stay there 2-3 times a year. …but never again without my muni! :uni: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Great photos and a great ride. I recognise that feeling of wanting to keep riding when it’s going well, and I love those times when everyone else seems happy and they appreciate a passing unicycle. The Oregon must be one of the coolest looking unis, and the bright green looks really nice in the snow.
I still haven’t bought the paint for respraying my new-to-me 19" double-fork-tube uni frame - I’ve been thinking of rich yellow, but that green is surely a contender. It was originally black, but I feel the frame design deserves a colour that will make it pop, just like with the Oregon.

It sure is! I love that combo of a filigree frame and a massive tire. But I love V-frames in general… Fun fact: I got the Oregon because at that time it was the only second hand muni at a reasonable price (Back then I wasn’t ready to spend a fortune on unicycles. Guess this has changed during the last year…). My soft spot for V frames came later.

Im not very fond of this particular green tone in general, but I agree it looks fantastic in the snow. I could see your frame in yellow. Agree, that frame needs pop!

I think I would be sorely tempted if a reasonably priced Oregon appeared on the market nearby, despite repeatedly telling myself I have too many unis. I intended to cut down to 2 last year for space reasons, but I currently have a further 6 in pieces waiting for me to fix up, after which I may struggle to let them go. I’ve been very lucky with finding interesting second hand unis (or arguably ‘projects’ in some cases) - it’s a bit addictive. Most awesome was when I was looking for my first 36er and ended up with a g36! I realised after a while I would never learn to ride it in high gear so I transferred the Schlumpf to a 26" and later sold the 36er - a ~39" wheel equivalent when the 26" is in high gear is quite fast enough for me.

It’s a story as old as time. You are out with your friends unicycling around in -10°C (14°F) temperatures and you feel like you need for a nice cold drink to cool down a bit, then you accidentally become part of the marketing material for the social media page of your local smoothie bar. No doubt it has happened to everyone here at some point.

Idiot American here, could I get a translation?

I’m just guessing, since I’m not speaking any of those strange languages of the north
“It’s never too cold or slippy for a unicycle tour to Smoothie Zone.”

Is this about correct?

Anyway, congrats to the shop for their good taste :sunglasses:

Google translate…

Welp. You know what they say. Great minds think alike and are often found on unicycles.
