Eicher tractor
I love how the size of the 36er is emphasized by the comparatively small wheel of the tractor.
Yes, it’s an Eicher tractor. The model is an ED13 from 1958 with a displacement of 1300cc and only one cylinder. I was fascinated by the simple construction and the sound of the engine, when I drove around. Nevertheless, I prefer the peace and quiet sound of the unicycle
Had a pretty sight atop my practice hill.
Someone was looking to pick a fight with me. I chose the high road and was the bigger person (literally)
Cross pollinating with the hopes that the uni bug infects affects a bicyclist out there.
A picture from last Friday. My 24" Nimbus is my primary mode of transportation(over walking) around my college campus. This was a nice early morning ride up to the library for some studying. The weather is getting cooler and the sunrises are getting later.
I just realized this unicycle has probably broken 100 miles!
I had installed an inexpensive trip computer on my 36er, and it was a proud moment when I logged 100 miles on the odometer ![]()
Before that I know I had ridden my 26" quite a bit (it was my first unicycle, and the only one I rode for my first 2 or so years of unicycling), and I probably broke 100 miles on that one as well at some point. It’s an excellent way to get around!
I’m back riding in Greyton (my happy place), a small village in the Western Cape.
I’ve been struggling to motivate myself following some abdominal surgery, but when I do get out to ride I absolutely love it.
Went back to a trail I haven’t been to in a while. Made it without feeling tired like last time. Fitness is improving. Woohooo.
Today was my Ast Ride. It was Cold but Sunny and the light was also very nice. My Muni make some Noises from the Spokes. I Hope I can fix it with more Spoke Tension.
Have you got a spoke tension meter? If not, it might be worth investing in one. Going by feel can lead to very unequal spoke tension.
No, i don’t have a Tension Meter but i also think about IT to buy one. Most of the time i use the ZentriBoy with is working great but Not for this wheel. The spokes are 2 years old and they makes noises every time and the rim is also Not the best quality with also Not good for the Rim Brake. I Hope i can find another rim or more spoke tension and then Hope that the wheel ist Not talking with you.
Almost 30cm snow - I don’t remember when/if I ever saw that much snow in my part of Switzerland.
So I took the muni for my shopping tour to the next village. Almost gave up after 100m but was too stubborn and proceeded. And I’m mostly happy I did. These were some really tough 7km! Almost half of the distance had to be done in car tracks, or worse: tractor tracks with their corrugated nature. And lots of snow to the left and to the right of the tracks → my longest skinny yet!
.
Had countless UPDs and a number of falls, and a number of dismounts because of free-roaming dogs. Re-mounting the uni was pretty difficult, and both while mounting and while riding I often slipped off the pedal, particularly the right one. That’s not helpful. But I made it and was almost as proud and happy about it, as I was exhausted. I was suprised how good the grip of the Kenda Juggernaut tyre was (even on frozen segments!), given its not exaxtly aggressive tread.
Key takeaways from today’s ride in the snow with my Oregon:
- free-roaming dogs suck
- tractor tracks suck
- ice on the pedals sucks; where are my heated pedals?
- wearing glasses while having a full-body workout in the cold sucks
- my knees suck
- my fitness level sucks
But I sure know how to have fun in the snow!

And here’s a pic of my Oregon in the snow:
Yes, I lost my camera on this ride. That really sucks!
I always wondered if a unicycle or bicycle would be better for fending off aggressive ankle biters. Also, that pic made me laugh. Thank you for the illustration. The contrast on the amount of accuracy on the frame compared to the tire is what really got me though.
Went further on a trail than a usually do. Got up into some hills trail and got my but kicked by them. Some 12 miles total. A portion of it I sadly was forced to walk as the inclines wasted me. Still was a good birthday ride all in all.
After I was up out of the city smog I had a hard time breathing the fresh air. Had to descend back down into my normal atmosphere to breathe normally again.
Got back to my vehicle and saw the biggest grin I’ve ever seen. He was so happy to see me riding. Cheered me right up. ***Edit: Was just a random stuffed hippo on a bush. Couldn’t resist the photo op.
You’re slower on a unicycle , so no chance of outrunning them. But it forms sort of a targe and is easier to move around and position between you and the dog. On the other hand, dogs are in my experience more “interested” in unicyclists than b!kers, since they aren’t used to unis.
Hm, there is indeed a sort of imbalance. I corrected that:
at least with a bicycle, there’s options for katana scabbard mounting points
bit trickier on a unicycle.
remember to wear the yellow suit…
Joe
so i do tree work… and huh, this is interesting…
but i feel like, you know, someone (not me), could probably ride this
wow
Good to see one wheel tech being used to get someone out of danger, rather than our version which is often seen as putting someone into danger.
However I think with the right rider it has the makings of a whole new category - the brake-controlled downhill freewheel recumbent unicycle!
(just rather a high entry price point for learning)
A recumbent unicycle just might be the most insane thing I have ever heard. ![]()
