That is some nasty, evil stuff.
Nice looking uni! Is that a 29x2.4 in a Mad4One Medium frame? I like the tight tire clearance.
Thanks! I also selected specifically that frame to get a tight looking setup with only the needed clearance. And yes you are almost right as the tire is a Vittoria Mezcal 29x2.35 in a M40 Medium “gold” frame.
Very cool. How do you like that width tire for Muni? I just got back into riding again and built a 29x3.0 Muni with the M4O Large frame, and I can see my self downsizing the tire width eventually and I was eyeing that Medium frame because it advertises 29x2.5" clearance.
Currently I mostly ride paved bike paths and some gravel (“fire tracks”/dual tracks) with only a few sections that I would describe as a bit technical. So I prefer narrower tires with higher pressure (~45psi) for a silent and more nimble ride as I don’t need the cushioning a wide tire can provide at lower pressure.
Arakawa River cycle way.
Riding on narrow strip of land between Nakagawa River on the left and Arakawa River on the right. Under the Metropolitan Expressway approaching Kiyosuna Ohashi-Dori Bridge, Tokyo Bay.
Great picture. Print it (big), frame it, and slap it on your wall.
Thanks Highlandtiger,
Yeah, managed to get a leave pass from family duties on holiday (it was raining) and spent a day cycling on the Arakawa River Cycleway.
58km from Sashiogi Station, Saitama Prefecture to Kasai Rinkai Park Station, Tokyo Bay.
Here are some other photos I posted on Strava.
My first riede was today after my bad Injury. I couldn’d ride for 3 Months. Now I was able to ride the fidrst 4 kilometers on Asphalt witch the 24" Muni and 150mm Cranks but it feels not very well and I was a little bit scary to fall of my Unicycle. But I think it’s possible to go back on the Uni Level from 2022. This Year was a bad Uni Year for me with a lot of injuris and the doctor said don’t ride your Unicycle it’s too dangerous for you and your bones. At the beginn of this year I couldn’t ride for 2 Months and now 3 Months with out of riding. Now I started slowly my recovery I hope. The Pace of the 24" Uni is enough for me i don’t won’t to go faster which it and I don’t want to go bigger witch bigger Wheels like 36" or the 26" Schlumpf.
The Mini T-Bar is a prototype of a Project for my own Unicycles, it works very well. It doen’t flex so much as a KH T-Bar but it’s really the same but mine is nearow on the saddle which is for me confortable as the KH T-bar for ride Muni with it.
Weather has been great for unicycling for the last two days. Almost no wind, 15 degrees Celsius and a bit of sunshine, so took my Schlumpf out yesterday and today for the first time in 4 months. Actually it’s just my 9th and 10th ride on this beast as I haven’t actually used it much.
I tried some new pedals this time. Wellgo C211. Fair grip in dry conditions and it at least made the upshifts quite easy to achieve.
It still feels a bit like starting over learning to unicycle. I can ride comfortably in high gear in ideal conditions but anything unusual and it will make me UPD. Had to run out a high gear UPD today at ~20km/h (according to my Garmin). It scares me a bit… it will probably become second nature someday with enough practice, and maybe I should add some protection gear as I only ride with helmet and gloves.
Back on my favorite unicycle. For some reason I even think it looks faster than my Schlumpf a few post up and it is just a reasonable priced alu rim in a Nimbus steel frame … with my own custom handlebar.
Even the sheep are amazed
Last weekend I was on a uni trip of 26 km through the nearby forests:
I was surprised to find that one path where water must have done its work since I have been there last time…
Fall Ride
100mm cranks on a 29"? Sure, not the worst in the world. But what’s about 75mm? This was the dumb thought that lead to the creation of a 100/75 custom cranks. I have done 3 rides, a 10km and 15km, and a 62km with unipacking gear and it was amazing.
With some extra practice I think I could climb and descend with the 75, but they fly on the flats. No major increase in speed yet but today I wasn’t tracking and was def feeling more comfortable going at speed with knee pads and elbow pads.
The handlebar is a must, and I’ve been practicing jumping off the back at speed for emergency stopping.
The 100m hole has become fairly easy for me and I used it on a 77km unipacking trips with 1.5km elevation and walking the hills I can’t was not horrible. I kept pace with friends on bikes and this new shorter hole has me thinking I might be ready for a 36" finally.
Go for it. I went from a 24 to 36 and had success. Dive right in to it. It’s a blast.
Very beautiful photos, but the trail looks quite bumpy. Is the entire trail like that or does it smooth out?
