dished wheel strength?
I posted the following on the UDC new product launch thread, but thought I might also get interest here.
The hub is not wider than the Nimbus 36" Nightrider, the wheel is dished to allow for the hub fitting. This gives the same offset from the centre on the none disc side and about the same offset as a none wide hub on the disc side. The wheel seams very stable with this combination and through testing has shown great durability.
First thing to note: I’m pretty excited about the 36 Impulse!
But I have one lingering concern, which I’ve been mulling over, and over, and over. . . and although Roger addressed my concern in the prior post, I’ve got to ask it again: Is the wheel really strong enough after you’ve dished it to make room for the disk? I know bikes do fine with rear dished wheels, but on a uni I would think there is a lot more stress on the single wheel, so my instincts are giving me some concern here. Anybody else have thoughts? Roger, perhaps more details on the extent and type of testing?
Another thought: Possible slight strength loss from dishing + slight strength loss from aluminum axle = too much strength loss? Or are 36er wheels so overbuilt that I’m just being overly paranoid?
