Wow, 38psi is apparently now the lowest pressure resulting in a blowoff. Just more confirmation that the NR is not compatible with this rim.
What I’m really wondering is if the King George ultimate (lite) would be equally as compatible as the TM, especially since it’s considerably lighter than the TM, and also because it has a more road-specific tread design which probably translates to lower rolling resistance.
So the KG would have the exact same fit at the NR? Maybe the NR’s BSD is slightly larger due an error in its specific mold, and not affecting the KG. But if the carcasses of both tires are the same then the tread design wouldn’t really make a difference in the fit of the tire.
The King George is available according to the QU-AX website, and shipping appears to be available to pretty much every country in the world except the United States! I wonder why that is. I sent them an email asking so I’m hoping to hear from them.
Unfortunately, that’s not the lite version. The one you linked to weighs a whopping 4lb! No, the only King George I’d be interested in is the ultimate which is the lite version (1250g).
Why are you looking for the same tire, from the same factory, from the same mould and even the lightest version? Will you try to show the lowest blowing PSI with the weakest sidewall? I can suggest that you could use a tire insert, but your wheel will be heavier. You could get the same weight of an alu rim with the added dampening properties of a tire insert. However it is good for XC or muni, not for road setup
1: The King George ultimate is the lightest 36 inch tire on the market, which translates rotational weight.
2: it has a more road-specific tread design than the TM.
3: If it turns out to not be compatible with the Nextie rim, I can use it on my standard 36er setup with the Stealth ll rim.
4: A new 36er tire to try.
Terry I know the tire, I rode it before using the vee tire, but Roger said it is from the same factory and the same mould and all those tires are a offstandard and doesn’t match well with a standard rim. So my question… won’t it be unsafe to use the lightest 36 sidewall tire with an unsafe rim in an unsafe road setup with higher PSI? I’m just asking. You are a unicyclist far better than me, but I prefer have you consider it. While I’m testing my 36er and building and rebuilding it, I found out that I was still riding my brauss rim with a tire insert… and when I say a tire insert I mean with 1.5 tire insert, because I cut 2 of them to cover a 36er rim adding 210 grams of rotational mass in the worst position for that added weight. Just be careful using that tire with that rim
Just got the vee tire 36er tube delivered today, and it was just $9. These are hard to come by right now but I think there’s one left from this seller:
Thanks, Terry! We are on the same page, I guess! I found it at Performance Bikes right before you posted the link. I haven’t yet posted my newly adopted Titan 36er, but will soon.
It’s the CDK’s website, the unicycle dept is run by Romain, captain of the french uni-basketball which won the world cup… 5 times ?
I can give you his direct mail in a private message if you want. I think Romain speaks english, but the website isn’t, for sure.
