Must-see movies?

I just saw Inception, and it was amazing. The effects were great and the plot was well thought out.

Just make sure you pay attention! If you leave for a bathroom break, you will completely lose track of the movie…

You had me going for a second there.

Then I realized: not THAT Steve McQueen.

THAT Steve McQueen.

I thought Midnight in Paris was a terrific movie but To Rome with Love is probably better. It’s like 3 identical movies happening simultaneously: A Woody Allen movie, a parody of a Woody Allen movie, and a critical analysis of a Woody Allen movie. It was just so much fun to watch. A total ear to ear grin-fest. It’s a ton of tired material made fresh and a whole bunch of ideas that you yourself have had cleverly slapped up on the big screen.

I loved it.

I just saw Moonrise Kingdom, a Wes Anderson film, very sweet story, quirky as you’d expect, well worth the price of admission.

Girl with the Dragon Tatoo!!!

Did anyone like Anaconda with Jennifer Lopez? How about that scene where they set the anaconda on fire, and the snake is twenty times bigger than J Lo and still swimming after her! :astonished:

Any movie with Danny Trejo is worth the price of admission. Or at least watching for a while on TV. I can’t believe that he and Wes Studi have only been in one film together. I think Robert Rodriguez should pair them up.

I’m planning on seeing this though it may not be until it’s on DVD. I thought Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums were wonderful movies.

Agreed. I loved it, and all Wes Anderson movies.

Some of my favourite movies are…

  • Back to the future trilogy.
  • Dangerous Minds.
  • Fat Pizza.
  • Godfather 1 and/or 2.
  • Pulp Fiction.
  • Ted.
  • The Truman Show.
  • Toy Story 3.
  • Up.
  • Wall E.

My Favourite movies have to be
Night At The Roxbury
Forrest Gump
Cast Away
Con Air
The Simpson’s Movie
Cube
Project X

this year:
A separation (Iran) -Well I do not know the title in English-
Untouchables (France) -well in fact I do not know the title in English-

A Separation is the correct English title for the first.

The second is actually known as The Intouchables in English although “intouchable” is not an actual word in English.

I would like to see them both but will probably end up waiting for them to be available on DVD or Netflix.

AMC’s “Breaking Bad” is far better than anything in the movie theaters! :sunglasses:

Big fish !

absolutely “BIG FISH” !!!

You can’t miss it… it’s… INCREDIBLE !

It makes you laugh, cry, reflect…

Bye from Italy !

I rewatched dust to glory and it makes me smile every time i watch it or any old motercycle movie.

Just watched “Arbitrage”. Have never been a big Richard Gere fan, but no doubt this was a great performance. Hitchcockian overtones abound, while still being its own film. Atmospheric, taut, suspenseful and very well acted and directed. Highly recommended for discerning filmgoers. :sunglasses:

Here’s the trailer:

As it turns out World War Z is a really terrific movie.

The New Yorker compared it to Contagion which was also a fine movie. World War Z is similar in many ways and in identical in one important way. Except that as a bonus it has zombies, a crap load of well done action, and implausible escapes that make perfect sense. It also has a sensibility and ending that are perfectly in synch with the current zeitgeist.

I am not a big fan of the comic book films that are so prevalent these days. Spider Man, Superman, The Avengers, Thor, etc just don’t do it for me. But science fiction/horror/fantasy done in a big budget but thoughtful way can be very good and succeed in many ways. This movie does and I liked it very much.

I just finished Season 5 on Netflix. Surprising how sympathetic we were to Mr. White in Season 1, and how most of that sympathy has dissipated.

It’s about a wealthy French man paralyzed from the neck down and his African health care aide. Best of the year!!

“The Sessions.”

Watch actress Helen Hunt take the virginity of a 38-year-old man afflicted with polio in the new movie “The Sessions.”
The film, based on the autobiographical writings of California-based journalist and poet Mark O’Brien, played by actor John Hawkes, tells the story of a man confined to an iron lung who is determined to lose his virginity.

The movie has also brought the possibility of enlightenment to France, where sex surrogates are still outlawed.
