Recently saw ‘The Messenger’ with Woody Harrelson.
A very moving picture about an Army Casualty Notification Unit.
Excellent performances all the way around. Enjoyed it immensely.

Last House on the Left.
A very intense movie. Very well shot, great acting, and it wasnt over the top like a lot of horror/thriller movies are. The action and reactions were very realistic, enough so that a lot of people wont like it cause its too “real”. one scene in particular, I just sat stunned, which is great for a movie to have that effect. Others at the same scene wont appreciate it.
I’m guessing you are referring to the remake, not the 1972 original, directed by Wes craven. Believe it or not, some of the most shocking and unsettling scenes of the original, are nowhere to be found in the noticeably tamer remake, which is also different in other ways from the original. So if you thought the remake was “intense”, you should see the first one. (I should also add, that the acting is worse than 3rd rate, and it’s disgusting and a total waste of celluloid, imo!)
+1
I saw this yesterday and love it.
Interesting to see The Hurt Locker scooped six Oscars.
I shall have to try and catch it on doovdé.

Also good to see Christoph Waltz win best supporting actor for Inglourious Basterds.
I went to see ‘The Hurt Locker’, and after about 15 minutes, I had a throbbing headache.
I just don’t get that amateur/low budget style of handheld filming. If it’s an attempt to mimic reality, I’m sorry but my world doesn’t look like that.
At about 30 minutes into the film, we walked out.
How on earth can a film that can’t even be watched, win best picture.
My wife, daughter and I just saw Alice in Wonderland in IMAX 3D. We all liked the movie. It was good even apart from the 3D effects. The
mixture of real and animated characters was believable. The performances turned in by the two queens, Anne Hathaway as the white queen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, were exceptional. Johnny Depp, one of my favorites, almost always plays quirky roles with believable emotions and as the Mad Hatter was no different. Even the slightest changes in his facial expression revealed emotions representative of those required by the scene. All this said, the scenery and 3D effects were spectacular.
We saw Avatar in 3D when it came out. It was fun and had cool effects. It had no business being in the Oscars except for the 3D effects. The movie itself was stupid beyond description. I’m still glad I saw it just for the effects. When we saw the previews for Alice in Wonderland it was already clear that it would be far and away the better film. How to Train Your Dragon and Trek which both appear to be entirely animated look like they’ll also be much better than Avatar.
If you can stand the genre at all, Music and Lyrics is tops among romantic comedies. Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore give terrific performances as does the supporting cast. Grant’s character, a has-been '80s pop star, displays just enough self-loathing without being contemptuous of his current fans and is completely endearing. The writing is spot on.
Around twenty years ago I remember going to the cinema and seeing a trailer for an animated movie which absloutely blew me away.
It was called The Cobbler And The Thief.
The trailer included this incredible chase sequence…

No computer graphics here, all hand-drawn.
Because of a lengthy legal dispute, which you can read about here, the film was never finished as its intended maker desired, but I was delighted to find a version on youtube which is pretty darn close, substituting missing scenes with animated storyboards and sketches.
The early workings and designs of this film predates Disney’s Alladin by at least ten years and has the wonderful Vincent Price voicing the evil vizier.
Enjoy.

Scott Pilgrim -vs- The World
possible the best movie I have seen, ever
it was freeking hilarious
“Get Low”, starring Robert Duvall in an oscar winning performance.
“The Lovely Bones”! I saw it a while ago and it was so damn beatiful! I drew two pictures of the great landscapes shown there …
I think Duvall will certainly be nominated and quite possibly win. I was left disappointed as the end seemed rather anti-climactic.
Did you see The Stoning of Soraya M. ?
Must see!
In the remake of Memento, no need for a Polaroid camera–use digital on his iPhone, and labels the images by typing.
Shutter Island
One of those movies that caught me off guard, it doesn’t end like you think it would. I watched it 3 times .

Anybody see piranha 3d? I heard it’s gory but also funny.
OFFICE SPACE all over the place=best movie ever made. i watch it every time it’s on tv in its entirety
I have not but would like to. Ving Rhames? Elizabeth Shue? Richard Dreyfuss? Christopher Lloyd? And Steve McQueen? Yes, STEVE MCQUEEN?? How bad could it be?
Just saw Piranha 3D (excellent 3D effects) earlier today and it is GRAPHIC! I would not recommend taking the kiddies to see this one, even though there are some humorous parts.
But If you thought the famous “severed leg sinking in the ocean” scene from Jaws was disturbing and/or scary, that’s nothing compared to what part of the anatomy is seen in the water in this movie! Pretty good thrill ride of a flick though.
