looks like the real thing…I’m gonna download it for myself, just to see.
DUDES IT’S TOTALLY FOR REAL!!!
does he die?
From the PC World blog
How long till someone writes a bot to troll the pictures on the web (or in Google Images, or Windows Live Image Search, or any of the other image sources (like Flickr) to find other photos with the same metadata. Could possibly zero in on the leaker that way. They’ve likely posted other photos from that camera on the web and in areas that may be able to be tied to them.
The game is afoot. How long till they are caught?
Hahaha, I bet s/he wasn’t expecting THAT!!
I’ve only read a few pages, and I’m definitely not gonna read the whole thing…I’ll wait for the real book to come out.
The bummer is that the ending will be publicized now. That is only going to make it more difficult for those who buy the book to be able to read it without having the ending spoiled by a widely publicized spoiler.
I want to check it out.
Camera serial number figured from metadata recorded with each image? Never heard of such a thing. Generally that metadata is supposed to cover standard bits of information, including camera brand and model, but why/how the serial number? I can think of tons of reasons-leading-to-lawsuits why most people would not want this…
Yeah, actually the way I found out is I was reading a blog-sort-of-thing and someone being an ass on purpose posted an entire list of spoilers at the end and I read the first one before figuring out what it was and so I know at least one thing that happens at the end…it is gonna be difficult to go till Saturday without finding anything else by accident though.
Between now and then, if anyone speaks to you, just close your eyes, slap your hands over your ears and scream “LALALALALALAH I’M NOT LISTENING!” at them until they go away.
Okay, I did my own research:
Apparently some Nikon cameras, at least, record the camera’s serial number with every picture. Hmm. I wonder if you can turn this “feature” off? It’s probably very helpful for copyright and such things, but definitely not if you want to be anonymous…
It does not mean that all cameras necessarily record their serial numbers, though one of the more obvious bits of meta data gives away the camera model, which would tell investigators whether it does or not.
In further research, apparently Adobe Lightroom (which I don’t have but may someday) allows you to edit this metadata, all the way down to camera serial number.
Yeah, I accidentally saw something like that too. It sucked a lot.
Are you sure it’s the real thing? because a month or two ago it was supposed to have been leaked, but it was just a really good fanfic that was renamed.
Oh nvm. It is real, I downloaded the pdf and read the first paragraph. I’ve already read that part so that’s how I knew it was real.
Yeah, the one I have is actually just photographs of the book someone took with a digital camera, and it has the chapter illustrations and the Harry Potterish font for chapter titles, and you can see the edge of the book jacket on the sides…it’s totally for real.
I swear, if anyone posts spoilers, I’ll napalm your house.
Harry Potter nerds are so funny.
I can’t read the words when I zoom in on the pic, am I ment to be looking at another link?
Yeah, the link I posted is not where you download the book…you need a bittorrent client, like BitTornado, then search for Deathly Hallows on isohunt.com or another bittorrent site.
So did they take a picture of every page or something?
I suppose I should read the first 6 books first…
Same here.
Actually I thought there were only 3
