+1 on the Wellgo MG-1s. I bought some for Ride The Lobster, used them there, and they’ve been on my MUni ever since. Great grip, great weight.
MG-1 too : light, cheap, grippy, great choice of colors, TI spindle version available
I’m putting together a new 29er and collecting parts. I was wondering what pedals to get. Since this thread is old I was wondering if there are any new pedals out there that I should be looking for? It’s a budget build so I’m looking for best pedal for the money. What’s a great value in Muni pedals?

The best pedal for the money is the plastic Odyssey Twisted PC, which is a fine pedal for $14 or so if you can live with plastic.
I would definitely avoid the Wellgo sealed bearing pedals as they have a cheesy little retaining clip that’s the only thing holding the pedal on the axle; it will break on you and you’ll be riding the spindle home.
The Deco PC2 pedals are reasonably cheap metal pedals if you prefer that. Or the Odyssey Trail Mix, but I don’t like that pin style.

My next pair are prob Nukeproof Electron or similar (there are several cheaper copies) or their ti Mag Protons but I have serious doubts if 100g is worth $150 extra.
Still happy with the Wellgo MG1
The best pedals I’ve used for muni are the CRC Nano Tech Flats by Superstar. They are very similar to Nukeproof Electron.
I think they’re much better than the Wellgo MG1 and Wellgo V8 copys that I’ve also used. The MG1 lose the pins easily.
When riding in snow I prefer the Wellgo Bear Trap Platform MG-26 pedals because they do not lose their grip due to snow and ice like most pedals.

I count 14 pedals there, so my guess is 7. 
I like my Twenty6 Predators. You can get them in cromo axle or Titanium axle (the latter of which comes in super awesome colors and you can customize the color of the traction pins too). The traction pins are designed to brake off, you remove them with a small allen tool, then add new ones. That way the pedal stays fresh and you still have awesome grip…AWESOME grip. With my 5.10s, I’ve had scary moments wherein I could not remove my foot from the pedal faster than my unicycle could fall. 
Downside: They’re crazy expensive, but IMO worth it.

I’m really liking the 1 set of Diety compound pedals I bought. Thin, light, available and easily replaceable studs, pedals and spindles. I suspect all my unis will end up with these eventually.
+1 All my unis have deity/nuke proofs now. Tough, low profile, grippy but not super pretty.

They remind me a bit of the Specialized I got for my 24":
So grippy. Not too heavy.
The 29" has Nuke which are very light, but only slightly less grippy.

Mag/Ti are a little pricey when not on special but the alloy/ stainless axle ones i have also have lasted years without servicing and around $60 for these which you can replace the axles, sealed bearings and pins try them first before sifting through the many available often wasting money and gathering shin gouges.
You can only know if these are any good yourself by giving them a go. I have 2 pairs Mag/Ti and
1 pair Al/Stainless
If you get some because of me and dont like them with good reason let me know and i will buy them from you for setting you wrong?!
The Nukeproof Neutron and the Superstar (up on previous page) are really similar. Same manufacturer ?
I would assume same pedal completely, also see:
nukeproof electron and deity compound pedals
nimbus studded plastic, kris holm and gusset pinhead.
Superstars and few others look identical to that nukeproof model. They should all perform similarly. Being Outstanding!!!
Do other similar design brands give the options and servicing kits. Stainless spindles, titanium spindles, alloy platforms, magnesium platforms, bearing and seal kits + correct size replacement pins?
If there is no concern for weight, colour or brand and given I haven’t in years on these pedals required servicing or parts go on your budget and what brand of these design pedals offers best value.
Can’t stress enough how good they serve and perform.
For me nukeproof neutron/proton flats make:
Shin guards… Obsolete.
Five tens… Best friend
Brain… Relaxed (finally)
Shins… Recovered
Could you develop on that subject? With such metal pins, how do you protect your shins from an unexpected slippage on the pedal?
Don’t tell me you never slip off the pedal… 
Five tens on these 3 years+ on a muni and far longer when I had bikes once upon a time and you guessed it never a slip of the feet as yet… touch wood

Yes shin guards I feel happy to ride safely without. Maybe trials I would keep them but more for the obsticals than pedal rash
I can’t fault the alloy or mg nukes. As for the Composite ones (electron) they are ok. Not the best design in many ways
Doesn’t anyone else feel safe without shin guards?
I ride 3 or 4 times a week to work and back then most weekends on trails and did a 200km mtb race and shins are untouched.
Doubt you need a pic of them though
can’t be luck or lack of effort surely. Never do a muni ride without upds.
