Alternative brake rotors for Schlumpf gen. 5

Ordered

Awesome! I’ll order 2 as soon as I can. Just out of curiosity/future reference, how many did you end up stocking in your warehouse?

There was requests for 10, so I ordered 15.

Ordered

I just found this thread. This hope disk looks like a great solution for the gen. 5 Hubs.

I also had problems with the original disc provided by Schlumpf. Unfortunately, I’m not on the forum very often, so I didn’t come across the Brakestuff disc, which probably already existed.
This meant I had to find a solution myself. I knew about the Breakfast adapter and tried to design something similar. After I was satisfied with my design, I ordered this part online for only $53.36 (including shipping).
Here’s the final solution:

I’ve been riding with this setup for half a year now (since February 2025), and I’ve never had a problem with it.
If anyone is interested in more details, feel free to ask.

That looks really nice !

Amazing! This is really clean!
Which brake caliper do you ride? Have you ever had conflict between the caliper and the screws?

I use the Shimano Saint one. I had to file a bit of the brake caliper mount (maybe 2mm), but not the brake itself. The screws have the thinnest head I found.

That is very nice. I can understand for the screws, I couldn’t find anything thin enough so I had them custom made for the Brakefast adapters hahaha.

The black arms have threaded screw holes, but there are nuts added on the back. Why are the nuts needed?

I’d say as counter nut, because there isn’t that much thread in the black part.

The head of the screws I found is 1,4 mm thick. Your custom made Screws are probably even thinner than that.

The thread in the aluminium is just 3 mm thick. I added the nuts just to be sure they don’t get pulled out. Although this adapter is made of 7075 aluminium, a M5 thread has less then four full turns in 3 mm material.
Maybe these nuts are not necessary, but I didn’t do any simulations or calculations on that. So I feel better while riding to have them. At higher speeds it could end badly if the rotor gets loos.

Got my rotor from Roger at Grischa. It was a really, really tight fit.
I had to put the rotor onto the hub, and tighten the screws one after the other to get it in place.
It works really great, much greater than my previous custom rotors

Thanks for reporting back! I just ordered mine, and I’m really excited to install it.

What kind of breaks do you have, and how do like them? I’ve still got the stock break on my Qu-Ax, and I’m thinking it might be time to upgrade those as well.

I’m not sure this question fits in the topic, but here’s a summary of what I’ve seen used on unicycles.
There are mainly two brands used among unicycles brakes:

  • Shimano, for 4-pots brakes (SLX, XT, XTR, Zee or Saint). They usually work very well, whichever model you use. I personally ride SLX and Saints on my different geared and freewheel unis.
  • Hope: they are more expensive than Shimanos, but are easier to service and are quite powerful. They aren’t what I prefer, but lots of people really like them.

They are also some Magura and Trickstuff brakes, but they are not in majority.

Aw man, I was really disappointed to see these rotors are out of stock. I was going to purchase two of these as soon as they came out (I was the impetus, I guess, of these even happening). But life happened and I had other expenses to cover before buying a rotor. @rogeratunicycledotcom Any chance another batch will be produced? I figure another batch would also provide an opportunity to fix the tight tolerance issue.

Aww I’m pretty sure more can be made and not having to file them would be nice. Might just be a minimum order issue but the hubs are out there and still being made - plus these make the hub a complete product - so much so I’d be telling Florian to not really bother making his rotors as they’re about the same cost if not more.

I’d be down with buying another 1-2 also :star_struck:

We had requests for 9 but produced 15…. So lets see how many more we want. Need to get to or close to 10 before ordering. Time for another pole maybe?

I think a poll would be great. It seems to me some people ordered more than they said they would or more people ordered who gave no prior indication of desire to order. We’re already 30-40% of the way there if @mindbalance and I order!

Yes, we are close aren’t we. Lets see if we can get some idea who else is needing them. They are really good aren’t they!
