I agree. The diving was horrendous. In my humble opinion, it really distracts from the game. Its very disheartening to see.
I agree with GILD’s posts. He will be remembered for more than the headbutt, but still…its a stupid way to end your career. Also, hopefully this will introduce the use of technology because as others have stated before, diving ruins games and players should not get away with headbutting peoples chests in the backfield.
There was something definitely going on there before that clip. The news footage now only shows the headbutt, but I’d like to watch the tape closely for the previous few minutes to see how taunted he was.
It was still the wrong response on Zidane’s part - winning the game would have been the right one.
Its a shame that the headbutt was the easier and only guarenteed response.
I agree, the headbutt the wrong response, but in his defense, how many times have we been ragged on, made a poor choice and regretted it?
I think the redcard just, and the self torment more then enough of a penalty for an inapropraite choice.

As Gild said, supposedly no refs actually saw it happen. They saw a replay on the stadium screens and issued the red card based on that. That is not legal in FIFA. Also Zidane was supposedly getting tormented the whole match.
It looks like the guy in blue is making it look more dramatic than it probably was, he seems to be expecting it and falls over accordingly. Are the players trained to take a fall when someone touches them to draw fouls?

Just out of curiousity, why is it illegal? Is it an outdated rule from when instant replay wasn’t available?

Diving is going down when you are not fouled or exxagerating a small foul. AKA taking a dive. The rule is I guess an outdated one, but I don’t think refs should make calls off the jumbotron. If they are going to make calls based on replays I think there should be an NFL style review booth and perhaps challenge system.
That makes sense…seems like it’d be hard to call it though…

You never know what might of happened if france had 11 players on the field, they could have scored…
And the whole incident would’ve been at the back of their minds and stopped them playing properly.

Looks like he likes to play dirty. The clip also shows him getting flagged on many of those moves, but I’m no expert on the sport so not really sure what I’m looking at.
What I do know is that every game has its existing rules, and playing within them usually leaves some gray areas such as “what the referees don’t see can’t count against me.” Unless they change that. Nipple-tweaking and name-calling are tactics, and the response to such tactics must be considered by each opposing player as well.
Look at that video! Football is such a joke. Most of those clips are just people diving, its like, kick… wait…jump on floor. Such a joke, these are ment to be some of the fittest people in the world, they dont act like it.

Anyone who plays soccer on that field is among the very fittist of athletes, as soccer is an aerobically demanding game and certainly one of the toughest field sports.
