What a douchebag. I know that he was known to get red cards before, but why go out like that in the world cup finals…especially if it is your last game in the sport. You would think that one of the “world soccer greats” would conduct himself better in a final match.
Soooo sad!
He’s aint a semi-god any more… He’s finally human (and weak).
He had told several times on TV that he loves his mother… the Italian should have been aware of that:D (I’m kidding, such a nasty move deserved a red card… maybe more)
No, just using his arms to get extra power in the head-butt!
It was quite sporting of Zidane to aim the headbutt at Materazzi’s chest, rather than at his chin. I mean, if you know you are going to get sent off anyway, why not go the whole hog and put one of the opposition in hospital:p
The headline on the front page of The Sun this morning was ‘Zid Vicious’
yea but the french guy is way smaller than the italian guy, theres no way he could reach his nose unless he jumped. it would hurt him a lot as well. it would be like getting a hammer hit on the head.
The main story doing the rounds is that Materazzi spent most of the game pinching his nipples whenever they were in the penalty area.
Shortly before that clip, you can actually see them both playing at the ball and as they come away from it, the Italian ran his hand across Zidane’s chest again.
He must’ve also said something to him as Zidane turned and rammed his head in his chest.
The nipple-pinching story would make some sense of the chest-butt as opposed to the more traditional Algiers Salute.
Please note, I’m adding this to this thread for info purposes only.
I am not attempting to justify Zidane’s action or apologize for him.
There is no need.
20 years from now, Zizou will be remembered for his feather-light touches that would float thru defences like they weren’t even there.
This red card will be nothing but a blip.
Texture.
The plot is now thickening.
It’s now generally accepted that the referee and his two assistants didn’t see the incident in question and it was only via the 4th and 5th official watching television replays that the decision to send him off was made.
This is in clear violation of FIFA rules, as they stand.
It may however help introduce the use of technology into the game.
Which might help eliminate diving.
Amusing that the voting for the player of the tournament took place at half time of the final match. They should have hung on for a few minutes more, I suspect the result would have been different.
