What is your dream cycle? The sky is the limit! There are NO boundaries.
HELP me brainstorm how we can bring bicycle and motorcycle technology and new materials into the Unicycling world. WE ARE BEHIHIND THE TIMES!
I’m looking into designing a concept unicycle as a pet-project for school. I’m leaning toward a 36" commuting cycle with hubless carbon fiber rim/frame with LED headlights/taillights for night riding. I will also be considering adding self adjusting cranks that shorten with speed! And in order to help people learn to ride, the LED lights can indicate to the rider which way to lean and/or apply pressure to the pedals.
Accessibility? - The catch is that I have to tailor the cycle to “help people”… help them learn to ride OR help them regain balance lost in an accident OR help them commute places they couldn’t before OR_______?_________ etc.
Take a close look at the Goodyear Blimp. Watch the little video there, and you’ll see how it has one tire. Also, right at the beginning, they fly over our local Foresthill Bridge, a common sight at the early MUni Weekends!
It is both- sort of. It is a design project based on reality. You’d be amazed at the posibilities new materials can provide (concerning hubless wheels). So to answer your question- It is a design project proposal with the intention that it would be possible to build with current technogy and a little process development.
Ok, I was going to say that alot of these projects go way beyond what is possible to manafacture with the average amount of time and equipment available to you in high school, but if the plan is to design something which could be built, but which you don’t intend to build yourself then that’s fair enough.
With the hubless wheel would you still situate the crank axle at the same place, or up higher so that the wheel was completely open?
