Who has completed a 100 mile ride?

im considering doing 100mi on my homemade guni in a couple weeks ne1 got any tips?

Have fun

If you have tried doing say a 50 mile ride on the same unicycle and that went well and didn’t feel like it strained anything then go for it! If not then it’s worth doing some shorter long rides first to get a bit of confidence in how far you can manage.

It’s also a good idea plan a route along a few stops of a train or bus route, so that you know you can get home if you need to cut the ride short. I like to do circular rides, so you end up back at home when you finish. Then you can have hot food and a nice sit down.

Good luck!

Sam

I totally forgot about this thread. I’m glad it popped up again. Since I started Coker riding in 1999 I have done three century rides. Hard rides, very uncomfortable but very rewarding. Later.

I’ve only done an 85 mile day but next year’s RAGBRAI you might see me on the 100 mile loop on my 36er. I’ll be riding my fixie the other 6 days so I don’t overdo myself. Riding the unicycle every day of the 7 day event makes you not want to stop and use the bathroom if its on the opposite side of the road…so the extra 20 mile loop really was out of the question last year. I’ll get it this time around though

today is the day

in gonna do my 100 mile ride today

oww i went down hard. :frowning: i was riding really fast and my chain ate my pants leg and i fell and rolled and it hurt so i cant ride today:( :frowning: and i had only gone 4 miles:( :frowning: :frowning:

I hope you heal quickly. But, dude, you have chain?

home made geared uni

Wooo! Just a couple days ago (saturday) I did a ride from UC Irvine down to my house in San Diego, and riding around Irvine before I left, as well as around in circles at UCSD looking for a way out, it went from the usual 95 to 100. Since I have a geared hub on order from Florian, I kind of had to do it to prove to myself that I could do a century on an ungeared uni. Saddle soreness wasn’t really that big of a deal, and I didn’t even get chafed that badly! (:-O) But by the end, my legs were pretty tired. I’m still sore about 34 hours after finishing, but it’s really not too bad, and I don’t see what would prevent me from doing it again, say, tomorrow. I’ll actually be posting a thread as soon as I get my pictures out of my pesky little camera. It was my RTL qual ride (I also rode Friday night) so I have about 70 pictures, 30 of which likely have anything discernable, and 2 of which are sharp. :).

Details to come, but my buddy and I finished a 104 mile ride on Saturday. An organized century ride called ā€œReach the Beachā€ in Oregon. Wanna get treated like a superstar all day? Get passed by thousands of bicyclists riding a 36er on a 100+ mile ride to the beach!

So chuck and boisei, I know you’re both tired after your rides, but you really should update and carry-down the list.

Still thinking through how I’m going to get on it…

100+ miler list

Zeke and I rode in 90+ degree heat on 36"ers for 100+ miles at Reach The Beach on Saturday . . . . . so I’m adding my name to the 100 mile list.
BTW: I couldn’t of made it without my new double headed black cock handlebar. See pic. The extneded length lets you hunch down into the wind and use it sort of like an aero bar giving you yet another position to give ā€œthe boys a drink of bloodā€

Century ride to remember: islands in the sky

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH BOY

I am so honored to finally be on the list with all of you awesome unicyclist! I might have to put an asterisk next to my name though. Am I the oldest? Nathan, how old were you when you completed yours? My 49th Birthday is October 9th.
My ride, (which I will write about and post, some day soon), included climbing over one Hors climb (12,100' high) and one Cat 1 climb (11,318' high), with a total climbing elevation for 101 miles of ..... over 10,000' feet :astonished: My average climbing elevation was also right around 10,000'. So, I am sorry that I did not make the 100:10:1 list, my riding time was close, but I have raised the bar to 10,000:100:1! I will include just a couple of photos here of the magical day in the saddle that I experianced on Saturday. I rode from my house in Aspen, Colorado to Breckenridge, Colorado. I am so grateful that I am part of this community, and now on this list. Peace and happiness to all. :)

Coming down from the first HUGE climb of the day, looking east towards La Plata Peak, a 14er.

Way to go, Mike! Huge ride, as usual. And that first picture is incredible.

There’s a bare patch in the snow on the ridge to the right of the leftmost peak that looks quite like a batman symbol.

Thanks Steveyo, I see the batman symbol now. You would have loved this ride, it was so hard, but so much fun.

Congratulations Mike! I don’t know the ages of everyone on the list here but I was 48 years 1 month old when we did ours June 2007. So it sounds like you ā€œbeatā€ me by a few months!

Loved those photos. We are in Sweden now - you should see how gorgeous it is.

Great job Mike! 10,000:100:1 is ridiculous! You are a beast. Did you have a brake to help you with some of those downhills? Were the tri-drilled cranks of much use for this as well?
