Who has completed a 100 mile ride?

No, still don’t use a Brake :astonished: , and yes the tri-drilled cranks rock. I rode the whole thing in 145 mode. I thought I might go longer for the last Cat 1 climb, but my legs were solid and made it. Yeah how about that !10,000:100:1

It would be interesting to see the ages of the riders on the list when they completed there rides. I have alot of friends from Sweden here in Aspen, they still are rubbing in the Red Wings championship. They talk alot about the beauty, (summer) there… but still love living here in Aspen. Enjoy Sweden.

In the first post, I should have said my average “riding” elevation was around 10,000’, not “climbing” elevation.

What an awe inspiring ride Mike! I hope to one day pursue some longer 36er rides in such beautiful country. Right now I’m stuck in sweltering northern Alabama with no mountains :(… I did enjoy my 3 weeks in Lake City, Colorado; capped off with a great run at the Hardrock 100 so I can’t complain too much. I am going to do my first metric century on my 36er this September though… Again great ride!

Thanks MuniSano, someday you will. Just keep at it, and setting goals. You can run in these long events now, so the 36er is next. You spend time in the high country here, you know how magical it is. Glad your time went well this year.

Chafing

What type of anti-chafing cream was used? Please tell mebecause I have tried about every oveer the counter cream.

Chamois Butr works good, this time I also brought along an extra liner w/chamois and that helped alot. Just putting in the miles helps the most.

Mike-
Phenomenal achievement. That sounds like an amazing ride.

Great ride. Great pics.
BTW what do all the numbers mean? is it milage and time?

Some of the earlier 100 mile ride folks came up with 100(miles):10(hours):1(wheel)
I tried that, but with my ride, it was to beautiful to race, so I was slow, so I raised the bar to 10,000’(feet climbed):100 (miles):1(wheel)

10,000:100:1 and in addition, average riding elevation of around 10,000’

thanks! I am now in the know! HA! Someday I will join the 100 mile club but not the 10,000 part! U da Man!

Another high mountain lake next to road.

Thanks Osmundo, thought of you in the a.m. as you were climbing Mt. Evans and I was just finishing Independence Pass. Hwy 24 was my least favorite part, until I got to Leadville. Keep climbing!

The elevation might, but I doubt the climbing would. Appreciate the kind words. I just completed another record type ride with over 10,000’ feet of climbing, back to back epic BIG climbs. I guess that is what I like to do. Cheers.

wow this thread has got me wanting to find an excuse to ride a century- if only to be in there with all those other amazing riders on the list. The longest ride i have done so far has been a 70 mile one- although this was with a pack (about 25kgs), and was 25 days (1600km) into a self supported tour. The 10 hr benchmark is something to work towards as well. I might pull out the maps later and see what might be a good route near Canberra.

That’s a hell of an effort, Mark. Didn’t you get really saddle sore? I don’t think the 100mi will be a prob. for you. I myself, might give it a go in a few weeks.

Mike, that mountain picture is beautiful.

I’ve come close to a metric century, it was around 90km, however I’ve never set out to do a century. Some day, when I find someone to ride it with, I’ll give a imperial one a go.

Denali- yeah a few days i got a bit saddle sore but i had some good nicks and some chamois butter to help me get through it. I think that if i was to do it again i would change my saddle. I was using a poor mans freeride saddle that i had made out of a KH fusion. The problem with this set up was that the added weight on my back negated the channel i had cut in the foam. The surrounding foam was just too soft and didn’t give the relief i would normally get when riding without a pack. I’ve seem some people on the forums experimenting with a denser foam on the top of their saddles. I would probably give this a go if i was to do it again.

Almost forgot to add my name, looks like I’m the 40th registered century rider after my 100+ mile ride in NYC.

ps, is ‘Max Taint’ a real name or Brycer1968’s ego after finishing his century?

I rode 100 miles yesterday on my ungeared Nimbus 36 in the Seagull Century in Maryland. There were 6,400 bikes registered for the event. I was the only unicyclist. The roads were great and it was a lot of fun. I finished in 11 hours with a total riding time of 7:36 hours. For the first 17 miles my average speed was 15.0 mph. Age 49 and 11 months. Oldest?

Steveyo - I met a bike rider who says he used to play a lot of ultimate with you. Sorry I forget his name.
