After about a month of practicing on my DX 24" I could ride 85 ft along a rail, but was terrified of falling, so I stuck to the rail.
Three weeks later I got a 16" CX, w/ a long seatpost and started riding around w/in 30 min.
About a month later, some random guy gave me a 20" and I rode that for another month, then started commuting the 2.5 mi. to school.
After a month of this, I finally had the guts to commute on my 24.
I’ve proven to be a slow learner and more often than most have hard UPD’s
Started a year ago, when I was 31, and I’m still 5’10"
If I were to pick the best size between 16, 20, and 24", for learning to ride and some tricks/skills, I would pick the 20" IMO.

I learned to ride on my uncle’s 20" schwinn when I was 10 or 11. Now the schwinn is mine. I took several years off and started riding again just a couple of years ago. The schwinn needed a new seat and new tire.
My schwinn now sports a Nimbus double wall 48 spoke wheel.

I learned on a unicycle with a 12" pneumatic tire when I was 10, in 1961.
One of the nice things about it was that you could put the arch of your foot on the pedal and still reach the ground with your toes to freemount.
