Hi folks, I would like to offer for sale my lovely 20" wheel unicycle by Rick Hunter, the now-inactive Santa Cruz area bicycle and unicycle frame builder. Rick doesn’t build frames any more but occasionally sells bicycle stems on his web site (huntercycles dot bigcartel dot com). This unicycle has 40mm bearing holders and is designed for the UDC square taper hub. That’s great connecting! The Hunters are so rare, it’s good to see one finding a home where it’s specifically wanted. I don’t have one in my collection.

A note on splined unicycle hubs:
The first one available to purchase as part of a built unicycle was the DM ATU in 1999. That’s David Mariner’s All-Terrain Unicycle, from England. You can see Kris Holm using one in some of his early videos, including a great clip where he rides it down a stairway railing and the wheel folds when he makes an off-kilter landing.

I rode the ATU for several years, and in 2003 it was replaced by a Wilder Muni (handmade aluminum frame, New Jersey). This had the new Profile “Poznanter” hub from UDC. David Poznanter was a highly skilled (and fearless) unicyclist from the Bay area, who had some input on the design of those. That was a great uni, but the many small splines of the Profile axle would alway make creaking noises.

Chris (User Centralvalley) sent the 20" Rick Hunter down to Santa Cruz. What a beautiful frame Rick Hunter made. This was my first time seeing one in person. After a quick assembly, I was happy to see that I hadn’t forgotten how to ride (though quite wobbly). Here’s a selfie action-shot to commemorate.

I have a 24" frame I could let go. I got it because I knew it was a hunter and I always liked the look, but really I wont ever ride it.
