When I was younger, I used to play a computer game, but I cant remember the name of it at all.
However, I remember quite a bit of the game play.
You start out outside, in front of a house with a pumpkin on the porch. This is all 8-bit looking graphics too. To walk, you had to type in “Walk to the left”. “Pick up the pumpkin” “Smash the Pumpkin.” That gets you a key. Then you can go to the door of the house and unlock it and go in. There was a barn/garage like building outside. Upstairs is a mad scientist guy with a assistant.
This is where id get stuck, cause you’d go into the scientists machine and change the size of your body. Then you can get into a door that is really small inside the house.
Dude!!! Its Hugo!!! Ahhhh!!! I love this game. Its the first Hugo game. I’ve played and passed Hugo 2 and 3 but this one got me stumped. Maybe I’ll try again. I have it on disc ahahahah

Does anybody remember gorilla.bas, a game that was hidden with Windows 3.1? You played it in the Visual Basic Editor. It was basically an artillery game, where two players (in the form of giant gorillas) took turns lobbing bananas at each other across a skyline of skyscrapers. You punched in your angle and your speed, tried to compensate for the wind (indicated by either a long or short arrow) and the goal was to blow the other gorilla up. They were explosive bananas.
I just thought it was a hilarious little gem hidden within the Windows files, and wish I could play it on today’s hardware. I probably could using Parallels or Fusion, but I don’t have Windows 3.1.
Anybody remember a game called “space station feta” . . . I think that was the name of it.
You were a stick man and had to cross a map before oxygen went out. I’m not exactly sure that was the name of it, and it seemed to be a blockdude type game. All black and white, but really fun. If anybody knows where to get ahold of this game, you have my many many thanks : )
I’m a bit too young to be familiar with that, though it is interesting to me, because I played the hell out of a game called Worms when I first got into computers and stuff (it’s now available in several forms on Xbox Live Arcade)…basically you played as a team of little worms with an arsenal of weapons fighting against another team of little worms on a destructible, 2D map.
One of the weapons was a ‘banana bomb’ which, when thrown, exploded once, shooting out a bunch of mini-bananas that exploded again when they landed, kinda like a cluster bomb. I always thought it was a uniquely zany idea, but now it seems possible that the creators got the idea from this older game! Who knew?
Wasn’t that with QuickBasic for DOS rather than Visual Basic? Was a good game though - lots of copies and spin-offs like Scorched Earth and Worms (in fact I don’t even think it was the original itself).
The most memorable games from my younger days were Mazogs and 3D Monster Maze on the ZX81. I spent countless hours playing both of those. We had a sort of Pong machine before that, but I never really got into that.
I did play Commander Keen a bit when I first had a PC - quite fun (wasn’t that the one with slugs everywhere?)
Other games that consumed a lot of my time were Dynamite Dan II, Fat Worm Blows a Sparky, the Dundarrach/Tir Na Nog series and Fairlight on the Spectrum and later Rick Dangerous and Stunt Car Racer on the Atari ST. And plenty more I’m sure, but those are the ones that come to mind.
