The Ailantus altissimus? We also have those in The Netherlands but mostly they are planted by municipalities.
lol it’s quite invasive around here, made particularly bad by the fact that it’s the preferred host plant for the also invasive spotted lanternfly
Yes, that is the tree. They grow very quickly and spread like green fire. If you want one gone, you have to cut it down and treat the stump with herbicide. Even then, you’ll find that the root structure will put up shoots for about 5 years. I cut one down and pulled up about 400 shoots already (I’m not kidding, 400 or more). Parts of our local forests are basically only tree of heaven - it outcompetes all of the trees for sunlight and destroys the local ecosystem. Incredibly invasive.
(sorry for the off topic rant) ![]()
Mad respect for putting in the work to knock down invasive species! Fighting off these trees is certainly no small task
I guess it is (or will be) a plague pretty much everywhere except for its original dispersal area (China and Viatnam, according to Wikipedia). Like so many other plants and animals that were from one corner of the earth and put in a completly different place. ![]()
Im still waiting for unicycles to become a plague though…
If you ask the curmudgeony people that share my bike path … they already are! ![]()
Just spent a solid 30 minutes throwing myself at this climb and it very nearly beat me but I GOT IT! ![]()
Luckily once I nailed the climb I was able to hit the descent 2nd try ![]()
This whole trail was short but quite challenging; hopefully with practice I’ll be able to chain the whole thing together without dismounts eventually.
what browser do you use to run the videos? I can’t run them on Edge, Firefox or Chrome on either my laptop or Apple phone
huh, weird. They seem to playback fine from firefox on both my phone and laptop, so I’m not sure what would be causing such a thing
On my windows 11 I get a message for missing codec
I tend to upload videos to my youtube account and then post the link here
That’s super strange, I was able to play it from Firefox my friend’s Windows 11 laptop. I encoded both clips with libx265 before uploading to keep the file sizes manageable, and I’d expect that to be supported basically everywhere
For me it played on PC Chrome and not Foxfire.
I’ve got no clue what’s going on here; computers are an enigma ![]()
