unicycle poetry

A one wheel cycle
Are you for real?
Why not buy a bicycle
Or even an automobile

You’ll get tired
And you might fall
Why should you suffer
And bring shame on us all

Reply-

I’m buying a unicycle
I’ve made up my mind
Riding on a unicycle
Is the best exercise you can find

Look at MuniAddict
What I’m saying is true
He is fifty seven
And he looks only thirty two

I’ll use the bus,should I need to
Or use an automobile
But when I want fun and a challenge
I’ll use just one wheel.

Haha, very cool unibokk!

Thanks Terry.

Thanks, Billy.

I agree there is no mention of a unicycle in it, but of course it was inspired by (and partly composed during) my many rides I Sherwood Pines. I hardly go there now, having moved out to flattest Lincolnshire, married and taken on 2 sons.

Big wheel keeps on turning, carrying me home to see my kin, singing songs about the woodland, I miss ol’ Sherwood Pines agin, an’ I think it’s a sin…

This one was inspired by an old T-shirt I made a few years ago using the famous phrase, “One for the Road”. I always liked the uni double meaning.

Had a flash of inspiration on this morning’s ride:

“That’s how we roll”
By Terry Peterson 9/21/13

An emerging new sport, of the one-wheeled sort,
Is taking the world by storm
The uni society is filled with variety,
And breaking away from the “norm”

Though few realize, there’s more than one size,
From trials to coker and more;
Whichever you choose, you surely can’t lose;
The challenge is what we live for!

You’ll steal their thunder; be a one-wheeled wonder
“Half a bike” will make your life whole!
Gonna live it and love it; no fear, rise above it,
And you’ll know that it’s just how we roll!

Epic!

To the woman texting and walking across the Shelby Street bridge.

There is a guy on a unicycle headed right for you.
Because you’ve conspired with the other pedestrians to occupy the entire width of the bridge.
The ones who are actually looking where they are going eventually notice him and create a gap.
Perhaps nonchalantly; perhaps in a startled panic.

You are going to be different.
He is going to have to dismount.
He’ll do it at the last moment that he can because he is giving you the benefit of the doubt.
You will soon prove that consideration to have been misplaced.

Now, it remains to be seen whether you will walk into him where he stands.
Now, it does not.

Unicycles fly.
Leaving the ground gracefully.
I am the pilot.

+1

Unicycle lands
My face plants in a cow pat
Passing walker laughs

Hiaku rules.

Use a unicycle for self-expression,
you will gain new skills from every session.
Go someplace you like
on your one-wheeled bike
and ride out the new Great Depression!

Wrote this on today’s ride:

“True Peace of Mind”
By Terry Peterson 5.6.14

Climbing the hills, reaching the top
The summit of life in full view
The void that it fills - I can’t ever stop
A true joy that’s known by so few

Uni’s my spirit, my heart and my soul
I’m so glad that you came along
Not a moment too soon, you saved me from ruin
Forever I will sing your song

Riding on through the night, till the sky turned to blue
Leaving worry and doubt far behind
Saw life’s reflection on the new morning dew
Uni gave me a true peace of mind

Rolling down the endless road,
Under brush-stroked skies of blue
Brings the colors of joy to the twilight years,
And a peace I never knew

So I’ll make this confession, of my one-wheeled obsession
It’s the only true way I can roll;
I’ve learned to the core, that less is much more
“Half a bike has indeed made me whole!”

T. Peterson

Twilight years? At 58, and twice as fit as anyone I’ve met?

Haha, maybe I should have used “golden years”, but thought it’s a bit overused, and looking it up, it says it refers to “retirement, mostly after age 65”. But then, there’s always “poetic license”. :o

Had a little inspiration during this morning’s ride. Was afraid I’d forget all the words in my head so I stopped to borrow a pen so I could write it down!

“Uni Nation”
By Terry Peterson

I want to ride forever,
The future’s well in sight
Uni’s beacon calls me,
My one true guiding light

For fitness, fun and sport;
A changing life event
Nothing else holds court,
It’s money so well spent

We welcome riders, young and old,
From every generation
One-wheeled fever has taken hold,
Come join the Uni Nation!

Look, there’s Michael, on his unicycle

Sue thinks he’s great as he does a figure eight.

That’s really cool, can you do other tricks too ?

Yes I can stand on my head while having a big pooh.

No I mean on the unicycle, like, jumps and spins

wheel walking, going backwards, that sort of thing.

Oh! now I understand, you mean tricks as I ride

so, he rides backwards jumps high and does a mean grind.

He rides with such skill as more tricks unfurl

he hopes to impress her and make her his girl.

I love you Michael your the best in the world

her heart is pounding, her head’s in a twirl.

As he somersaults he sees the love in her eyes

he lands it and rides out and to her surprise.

He pulls her close and holds her real tight,

and says the words please meet me tonight.

And she says… oooh Michael
