unicycle poetry

Keep on telling us your uni tales,
Mikefule they are so sweet,
I feel like I’m riding with you (from Wales)
Maybe someday we’ll meet.

Sorry. It just ‘happened’

Cathy

Nothing has ever compared to this.

lol if you seriously give in a poem t ur english teacher about unicycling he’ll go like WHAT THE F…

A haiku I wrote last year:

Legs pump rhythmicly
Road flashes beneath my wheel
One with the machine

Just had a little spark of inspiration to write a new uni poem. It’s pretty much puts my rediscovery of unicycling in a nice little nutshell:

“A true state of mind”

By Terry Peterson
7/29/12

A one-wheeled adventure, a never ending quest
To reach for the pinnacle, life’s ultimate test
MUni’s a sport and it’s one of a kind
Engrained in my soul; a true state of mind

My life had been empty with nothing to show
Depressed and discouraged and nowhere to go
I thought to myself, “now what can I do?”
About to turn 50, then out of the blue….!

…I grabbed my old schwinn and blew off the dust
This uni was old and covered with rust
I pumped up the tire and to my surprise
I was able to mount it, after one or two tries!

Forty years had gone by since I’d ridden before
I hadn’t a clue about what was in store!
It’s now been six years and I haven’t looked back
I see a bright future, where once it was black.

Thanks very much!

Couple more recent uni-poems:

“Disappear”
By Terry Peterson

Brittle leaves crunching under my wheel
Splashing through another stream crossing

Riding free under the shady canopy of pine trees
Escaping the incessant drone of the rat race

Peace and solitude waits for me here
Away from the concrete and artifice of the city

Why can’t I stay here forever?
Riding into the future until I disappear…

“Riding Forever”
By Terry Peterson

MUni’s my drug and a natural high
Nothing can equal the thrill
Living the dreams that money can’t buy
I can never quite get my fill

Ready to roll at the summit of life
The trailhead beckons me on…
My wheel digs in as it cuts like a knife
Blazing the journey till dawn

Now in my autumn the years melt away
Can’t dwell on what might have been
Riding forever and living each day
I’d do it all over again!

“Disappear”
By Terry Peterson

Brittle leaves crunching under my wheel
Splashing through a golden stream crossing

Riding free under the shady canopy of pine trees
Escaping the incessant drone of the rat race

Peace and solitude waits for me here
Away from the concrete and artifice of the city

Why can’t I stay here forever?
Riding into the future until I disappear…

Unicyle verse, in the form of Japanese haiku

rock in road ahead
pedals twirling, I not see
I am on ass

I can relate to that.

And nice poems terry

Thanks. This one was actually from a little daydream that I had:

“Pedal Onward”
By Terry Peterson

Concentric wheel spinning 'round
Riding high above the ground
Far from home I can’t be found
Where life is good and sorrow’s drowned
Pedal onward to the sound
of mountain streams, where trails abound

I ride the secret kingdom where the oak wears summer’s crown
And motley magpie’s laughter mocks as hidden pipers play
And halls with many columns echo far and all around
And crow stands sentry high above the fray.

I ride the secret kingdom when the autumn comes around
When squirrels start to hoard and Beech trees shed their golden tears.
I ride the fossil footprints over winter’s frozen ground
And crow stands witness to the turning year.

I ride the forest kingdom where I sometimes see the deer
and glimpse the many coloured jay between the furthest trees
And far above the raucous crow - the loudest sound I hear
And pine trees whisper witness to the breeze

There once was a man named Neal
Who they said rode on only one wheel
He was having a blast
Until one day he crashed
And ended up with a mouthful of steel

I wrote this on today’s MUni ride (6/8/13) and I’m dedicating it to the everyone in our uni-community, and those who want to learn. I felt truly inspired with this one:

“Full Circle”
By Terry Peterson 6/6/13

I learned to ride when the world was young;
But only glimpsed what was to come…
The child moved on, leaving uni behind;
The years went by; out of sight, out of mind

Distant memories of the past,
Came flooding back to me at last;
Forty years had gone so fast;
My love for uni, in stone was cast

It took a lifetime to fill the void,
And realize what I’d missed;
Uni today is a “fountain of youth”,
That for many does truly exist

At one with the world, I became a new man
A whole “universe” yet to explore;
When I come full circle to where it began,
I’ll go around again, evermore!

Nice one, Terry!

Thanks.

Out on a GUni ride this morning, I was inspired again! This is also my way of saying thanks to Florian and Kris for innovating the awesome geared hub!

“Shifting Tide”

By Terry Peterson 6/15/13

Gear up your uni and kick into high
Enter a threshold unknown
Don’t be afraid to let that thing fly…
Prepare for your mind to be blown!

The hub is a marvel of modern design
Two speeds with internal high gear
With a click of a button the “planets” align
The future of Uni is here!

The inventor’s a genius, and “Schlumpf” is his name
With Kris Holm contributing too
It was love for the sport, not fortune or fame
That they built it for me and for you

So ride on the wave of the “shifting” new tide
Get yourself up to speed…
No need to hurry, just enjoy the ride
The desire is all that you need

Thanks.

very nice!

(though it’s not clearly a unicycle poem, the writer could be riding a unicorn:p)
