Flat seat request

I’m in Ben. Black Fushion Freeride please. Let me know what I need to do.
Thanks.
Paul

A flatseat is far more comfortable and I have not noticed any loss of performance or control. I am not sure why we have not had this sort of innovation in the past, but it is long past due. I can’t speak to why Terry (muniaddict) doesn’t think his flat seat is more comfortable, but I think he is in the minority. I don’t know that a unicycle seat will ever be as comfortable as a bike seat; as if riding a century on a bike is truly comfortable, but I have had far fewer problems with discomfort and I have not had a single “testicle issue” since going to a flat seat.

Also, once I get the seat base modified I thinking of not gluing the pad to the bases, so instead I would send it assembled, that way if you wanted to “adjust” the foam to make it slightly curved or whatever, you could do it without having to peal off the foam. Gluing the foam down is very easy using spray contact adhesive. You don’t actually have to glue down the pad since the cover will hold it firm in most cases.

Yes Ben, I’m in. It’s Paul Bondi for the black fusion freeride.
Thanks

Possibly just because nobody had tried it properly - everybody assumed that you needed all that curve because that’s the way it had always been and those who had experimented with bike seats hadn’t had success (because they’re lacking that little bit of curve you need, and you don’t sit on them right if you tilt them up in the way you can a uni seat with slight curve). It’s always a lot easier when you know something is possible. Still experimenting with mine in terms of getting rid of foam, as I feel less would be better for me, though I’m conscious it’s easier to remove than add.

On which thought, what is the contact adhesive you use? Not sure what I’m using is the easiest.

I dont glue my foam down, I really wish i got a carbon base while they were for sale

Somewhere in my “how to” pictures there is a picture of the spray adhesive I use; I can’t see the pictures from work, but I believe it is the Loctite Higher Performance Spray Adhesive:

Not sure how you do your glue ups, but a thin layer on the base and foam, is plenty, you don’t really even needed to glue the sides as the cover does well to keep things tight.

I’m going back the other way, I think not enough foam is hard on my sit bones which is why I am riding an unmodified Freeride and barely modified Gel; the flat pad was trashed, the minicell was trashed and the cut down Freeride went on my loaner.

I think a flat seat base with thin seat foam will work, but then we’re getting into the “bike saddle terrain” where a thin hard foam necessitates padded shorts. I think padded bike shorts are less common in unicycling, at least for me they were never realistic due to the seat curvatures I used previously. But now I can ride with a padded short on a flat seat and not have testicle issues. I am far comfortable on the flat seat with a “thinned” Gel seat pad and padded shorts than I ever was on a Freeride without padded shorts.

I can ride my flat seat with the unmodified Freeride foam with or without padded shorts; though padded shorts are the most comfortable, whereas the flat seat and Gel pad is kinda firm without padded shorts reminiscent of riding a firm bike seat without padded shorts.

I guess I should let someone else who does not feel comfortable making one sign up first

Looks like UDC is out of the green street currently.

UDC is expecting a container this month, so if I can get an order in early there is a better chance of getting the preferred colors.

To save time and avoid tons of PMs, can everyone put in a second choice for seat color?

Also, don’t worry about arranging payment right now, just sit tight and once I have everything together I will PM everyone on the list and make final arrangements.

I have six people interested in having a KH seat flattened.

I am willing to flatten up to ten seats for FREE, the only cost to you is a new seat and shipping.

I have not checked with UDC on availability of seats in preferred colors, but they generally have a good selection and the next container arrives in two weeks.

I expect to start working on seats the last weekend in April, so I need to place an order ~ Monday, April 22nd.

Here’s the current list, add your name if you want one:

  1. Alice Arctan, Freeride, blue or green or grey
  2. Paul Bondi, Freeride, black or green
  3. Scott Wilton, Street, green or black
  4. Lance Buterbaugh, Freeride, black or blue
  5. Carl Hunt, Freeride, black or blue or red
  6. James Turner, Freeride, black, 2nd choice blue

I’m in. Feel free (if you want) to go ahead and glue my foam to the base as I ride my KH Fusion Freeride saddles un-modified. You can even go ahead and cinch up the drawstring because it is going from box to uni “as is”. Thanks for doing this! I’ve been dying to try a NNC but my limited knowledge of all things mechanical kept me from it.

  5. Carl Hunt, Freeride, black or blue or red
  6. James Turner, Freeride, black, 2nd choice blue
  7. David Hood, Freeride, black or blue

I feel the same as David Hood with regards to securing the foam on the base.

Did Pete stop making them or something?
