The best song ever

What’s your favorite song? Vote for it and we will find what Unicyclist thinks is the best song ever.

What’s my age again, Blink 182

99 luft balloons, english version

Kryptonite, don’t know what the band is called :frowning:

3 Doors Down is the band.

My favorite song ever? That’s a tough decision…maybe “Tribute” by the D.

Either “Mr. Tamborine Man” by Bob Dylan or “We Shall Overcome”

Right now I’m totally rockin’ out to California Dreamin by The Mamas and The Papas…another favorite is Terrapin Station, by The Grateful Dead. And Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve.

ooo a maybe “Up on cripple creek” by The Band or “purple haze” wait no it’s “Free bird” aaaaaaaaagh I don’t know!!! Well maybe “Fear of the Dark” by Iron Maiden

“Stairway to Heaven”

Just kidding. Someone had to say it.

I’m going to go with that circus song that people hum every time I ride by. Either that or “Death of a Clown” by the Kinks.

I add American Pie to my list.
and Father and Son by Cat Stevens.

People=sh*t by Slipknot
Helena by My Chemical Romance
Over the rainbow by me first and the gimme gimmes

James Potter has excellent taste. Those are all great songs.

Depending on my mood, the “best song ever” changes.

Right now I’m feeling Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel.

Hmm…Melissa (Allman Brothers) or Jessica (Grateful Dead) are also wayyy up there on the list of possibly best songs ever.

This is quite possibly one of the hardest questions you could ask me…
Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty…?

I’ve got it! Louie Louie (by the Kingsmen)!

mmm…Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick (all 43:42 of it) …

Touch of Gray or Box of Rain (by the 'Dead)?

Song to See You Through or Eyes of Silver by the Doobie Brothers?

Low spark of High-heeled boys, Light up or Leave me Alone, Many a Mile to Freedom, Life’s Been Good by Joe Walsh (& Traffic)?

Running on Empty by Jackson Browne is also a great song…

Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show by Neil Diamond?

Reelin’ in the Years or Deacon Blues by Steely Dan?

I really can’t decide. There are wayyy too many great songs to choose from, and these are only few I can think of (by some different artists).

A better question might be “What is your favorite song from each artist/band?”

It’s one i wrote with my band:

Murder
by Mother Theresa’s Ack Pack.

I torrented this a few weeks ago. It’s an excellent collection and can be found here.

Oh well, It’s a great list. If the link above doesn’t work for you (for whatever reason), here’s the url:

EDIT: James, I’m listening to California Dreamin’ right now. I haven’t heard it in years. I still remember all the words, haha

Oh yeah!

No Rain by Blind Melon
Folkstar by Bedroom Philosopher
anything by the Kinks
John Butler - Peaches and Cream
and Everclear - Wonderful
just to name a few.

I don’t have a favorite song. I have a few favorite bands. If I had to pick a favorite song now, I’d have to say…

Red Barchetta, by Rush.

Runner up might be Spirit of Radio, also by Rush.

[skip this paragraph if you don’t like Rush] Others have pointed out that musical moods vary and that there are far too many good songs to choose from. My musical moods and cravings vary all over the place, even within the confines of a single band. Sometimes I revel in the poetic genius of Neil Peart’s (Rush) lyrics, such as the imagery of Witchhunt, the humanity of Nobody’s Hero, Bravado, and Everyday Glory, the tragedy of The Pass, or the epic sagas of 2112 and Cygnus X-1 / Hemispheres. Other times I need to hear the high-pitched, raspy singing of a younger Geddy Lee. Still other times I will crave a particular performance of 2112 or Closer to the Heart.

And when I’m not listening to Rush (my lifelong favorite band), I might bask in Brad Delp’s blissful vocal harmonies of the group Boston. Or the harmonies of the a capella Zulu group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. If I’m feeling a bit electronic, I will listen to Tangerine Dream (or their polar opposite, Kraftwerk).

Again, far too many songs to choose from. Favorite bands – yes. Favorite songs – impossible to choose (and too transitory).

My favorite song, and I interpreted the title of the thread to mean just one, is Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings. I hereby vote for it and disallow all votes other than JC’s because it may be the same.

Hi Greg. Interpret all you like, because your disallowing is disallowed.

Actually, interpretation is not even necessary – it clearly states to specify one (we just choose to overlook that part). The part that is open to interpretation is whether “best song” (from the thread title) is the same thing as “favorite song” (from the body of the first post). Surely Mozart would rank high in the “best” category – higher than even the most sophisticated rock music. But classical music is not my favorite. Musicality? Melodiousness? Sophistication? Can a rock song clearly lacking in (for example) dynamics presume to be ranked as “best?” Foot stompin’, head bangin’ – yes. But best – hardly. So, what is this thread really about? I’ve come back just to ask that question.

i just took it upon myself to splurge out and post my favourite songs.
I am guessing that if this really was a thread for the ‘best song ever’ there would be much dabate and we would eventually come to a unanimous (spelt incorrectly) decision on what unyclistsit’s as a group, who use this forum, this thread inparticular, think is the best. But i doubt that will happen

YAY RUSH I personally like The trees and New world Man, both by Rush and I have a three minute Drum solo by Neal Peart

Correction: Bittersweet Symphony by the Rolling Stones  http://blogs.sun.com/plamere/date/20050414

tops on my list are:

Metallica: One
Billy Joel: The Entertainer
