The best song ever

Adagio for Strings is one of my favorite short classical pieces, but it always reminds me of funerals.

Right now I’m listening to Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor (BWV 582). It’s my favorite Bach organ piece.

For contemporary songs my favorite would probably be Pink Floyd “The Wall”. I consider the entire two discs to be one long song with separate movements.

anything by australian band “the cat empire”

“One” by metallica is also up there.
So is “i dont like mondays” by the boomtown rats.
and anything by miles davis.

lol and “senorita” by justin timberlake :stuck_out_tongue:

“tribute” by the d is also good but in a different way. not so much musically. its in the same sort of league as “always look on the bright side of life” by monty python - more about the lyrics.

As you can see i have pretty eclectic taste in music!

Cheers,
Max

I think Im turning japenese:the vapors (lol)

yeah there is just so much energy at their live shows. they are fantastic.

WHAT!? Mozart was gifted and everone digs/dug him but I could come up with the same stuff he did. If you want some real grooving classical, check out;Igor Stravinsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, Philip Glass, Bach, Lenord Bernstein, Edgar Varese and Frank Zappa just to name a few. Or at least that’s what I think…

Naming the ‘best song ever’ is a bit beyond me so I’ll just go with my personal favourite. It changes pretty often but right now it’s ‘Cold Water’ by Tom Waits.

Amazing Grace and Happy Birthday are the two best songs ever. I never tire of hearing or singing either.

I KNOW A SONG THAT GETS ON EVERYBODY’S NERVES…AND THIS IS HOW IT GOES

Amazing Grace gets on my nerves.

Raging red by Dear Leader

Or

Best of you by Foo Fighters

Or

Hurt by Johnny Cash

Or

1.21 Gigawatts by The Break

Or

I will follow by Fear Factory

Dammit, theres soo many I can’t choose one!

Rock on!

I thought Mozart was the Einstein of music. I’m familiar with some of those composers. I’ll check out the others some day. You left off Debussy.

(technically, I think classical music is only from the time period 1730 to 1820).

And yes, what would the amazing Koyaanisqatsi be without Philip Glass? *

    • Godfrey Reggio is to Philip Glass as Paul Simon is to Ladysmith Black Mambazo (well, for me, anyway – how’s that for obscure?)

The classical period, including the years you cite, is characterized by the style known as classical music. However, classical music as a general term to embrace other periods including baroque, romantic, and modern, as well as forms including orchestral, operatic, and chamber is well established and accepted.

But you already knew that.

Songs

It’s gratifying to see so many younger fans of classic rock.

When I saw the original posting I immediately thought of Meatloaf’s “Bat Outa Hell”.

Best Ballads? Pretty much anything ever put out by Harry Chapin.

It’s what I grew up listening to  .
And a lot of motown…

I can’t understand most rap lyrics, and can’t relate to any. I like to tell people that it’s destroying their brains :stuck_out_tongue:

Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
Imagine – John Lennon

The WAND - The Flaming Lips
