Good man!
It’s really not that difficult though ![]()
I think I know what you guys are talking about and I love doing those. I rarely freemount anymore tho. I usually static mount.
I usually mount with SIF when I’m standing still, it’s just kindof what I got used to after practicing 180 unispins for so long.
Today I… rode for 30 minutes and got pooped out, I did manage to ride backwards again though, my balance is not what it used to be but I got a good 20 feet or so, no fear, just need to get back in the groove. People make backwards riding out to be a lot scarier than it really is btw guys, you just have to learn how to do it, just like you learned to go forward, except easier because you already have the concept of how to balance on a unicycle. So just wear a helmet, maybe some elbow guards if you want, jump on, lean back and ride backwards! (The trick really is leaning into it, you can always backpedal faster if you lean too far back haha)
I’m gonna ride again tomorrow for another 30 minutes in the morning, and then 30 minutes later hopefully. I don’t want to overdo it, trying to get back in shape!
Today I did my 6km coker route and averaged 14.5 km/h. It makes a big difference when you don’t have to dismount and try to get back up again. It is the first time I’ve done that ride on my 36 without dismounting. ![]()
Today I walked 13 miles, most of it up hill. Yesterday, I rode for an hour (first time) and added hills to my distance training ride. The new seat is really helping and since I can ride longer I am making progress on killing back all the nerve endings between my legs.
I think tomorrow is going to be B-ball, idling, rolling mount, and riding backward. Back to a distance ride on Sunday.
Today i also rode 15’ on Nemesis curb (It’s what I call the curb I am learning to ride skinnies on).
My backwards riding and idling is getting a bit better.
today first time ever I went down stairs.
those were stairs in the woods (so long stairs) and I did it with my 24x3 Muni.
Curiously I succeeded because I decided not to hold my saddle (bending forward and balancing arms down like a chimpanzee).
I did some steep (but small) steps not too long ago.
Steps can be tricky to master. I would say I have pretty much mastered them now ![]()
You will find that you really need to hold your seat to stop it falling away from you if you try and go down anything bigger or steeper.
Mowcius
Well I try but I am not sure of that: I can go down very steep slopes and fall down small rocks of about 30cm without holding my seat. The seat just “slides” between my legs but never escapes.
Hmm yeah I used to think that but it definitely gives you much more control. Not really much else I can say. ![]()

Today I rode through town just to find out that there was a BACA event (Bikers against child abuse - Bikers being harley type riders for those outside the USA)
So I saw where the main area was and rode right through. Hopped down a curb and parked the Uni right between 2 custom $40,000 + Choppers, leaned it against a poll and began checking out the bikes as they looked at my crazy contraption
Was made an honorary BACA member for the day ![]()
Oddly they weren’t as willing to let me try thier rides as I was, although none of them took me up on my offer to try it out, OR to race me through the parking lot. LOL What a fun day and a blast of a group of people to hang with.
Wow very cool story man!
Today I…had a nap instead of going unicycling. :o
Disgraceful.
Today I’ve got work to do so I might not get out either:(
Today (yesterday) I clipped a pedal in a turn on my 20" with 125’s. Guess I will put the 114s back on. I also ‘racked’ myself pretty good trying to do a rolling mount. Did some pedaling backwards along a railing but I don’t think that is very helpful to learning to ride backwards since I can’t go very fast while doing this. I’m going to go back to just letting go of something and taking off backwards. I also unscrewed my pedals a bit so last night I put some blue loctite on them.
Has anyone else picked up the habit of bouncing the uni to listen/feel for any rattles/looseness? I find I do this every time I pull the uni out to ride. That’s how I ‘heard’ my pedals were loose last night. I have also found loose bearing clamps, and saddle bolts this way.
Today is a distance ride.
Freedom.
Today after hours of practice I finally managed to freemount consistently…Yippeeee…I’m freeeeee:)
I’ve heard that picking a point a certain distance in front of you and continuing to look at that distance can help with backwards riding. I think that it helps me.
Ezas,
Yes I bounce my uni’s. I just do it for amusement though.
Yesterday I:
Attended a bicycling/unicycling/juggling event in Kokomo, Indiana. The highlight was riding several different giraffes. I rode a Torker 5 footer owned by John Deckinga and I rode a 6 1/2 footer built by Tom Miller. At one point we had 4 guys riding giraffes at the same time! That was a blast. Tom brought a van load of his creations for people to ride. A 10 man bicycle, also built by Tom long ago, was ridden thru town by participants of the event. Tom did something very clever beyond just making a 10 man bicycle. He installed the pedal assemblies such that the pedaling of the 10 people looked like a centipede.
I’m getting there.
My curb mounts are consistent, even using only a 2x4 as a curb
(more like a wheel chock)
And I get about 1 in 25 free mounts, but not smooth and graceful.
Sometimes my unsuccessful attempts are smooth and graceful and
spot on (the rollback is perfect, foot position just right, but balance
off by just a hair, or some slight error that makes me fall in spite of
near perfect technique)
Sometimes the ones I ride away from are really ugly, but successful.
I started for my 49th birthday in January (started in February due to
a delivery delay).
So I need to either ride or take a nap now.
Yes. I do it to check my tire pressure.
