So how is the KH24 working out? Did you have to do much tube cutting to get it to fit you?
I love it! Just progressing slowly on it. I love how fast it rolls and makes me feel big and tall lol. I am in the process of changing tires. I think for muni the 3.0 is too wide/heavy for me. I’m waiting for my hookworm now. Have a 2.0 inch tire for the time being lol. Its light but squirelly! This is by far my uni of choice. I am debating putting short cranks on this with my slick tire so I can go fast. Or I might wait until I learn it better.
The crank I thought was ‘bent’ was just loose - It moved last night while I was riding so I took a closer look and the nut came off too easily. I removed the crank arm, cleaned and reinstalled it with a bit of grease on the threads which they were completely dry. After that, I removed and greased the other nut and checked that all the bearing bolts were snug.
Hopefully that’s taken care of.

Today I rode part way to work for the first time. I had my daughter drop me off three miles from home just before the climb. I rode about four miles total to get to work. I rode on my 26" Torker. Torker seats are so bad!!! It was okay for the first mile but got progressively worse as I went along. I think my crotch has gangrene LOL. The climb was great though. I was going to switch out seat posts with my Muni so I could use the cushy seat, but forgot that the seat post was way too long for the 26. I’m ordering a new seat and post for the Torker. Good thing I have a second temporary job to pay for all these toys.
I did the longest ride I have done so far today, 6.5 km, and felt I could have gone further. It was all fairly easy paved country roads, and I UPD’d twice, both on the steepest uphill sections. KH29" I love it.
Weather is supposed to be cold wet and windy tomorrow, so I will work on hopping, idling, and backwards.
Wow, I’m still in the parking lot lol. But on the 24 I am finally getting my right turns. Once I get my hookworm, I will have a fat stable tire again with the benefits of the low rolling resistance. I really need to go back on my small one and get hops down. I am wondering if I should put the short cranks on my 24 and keep the 137mm on the trials uni for hopping around??? I seem to be addicted to jumping on my bike so maybe I should jump on my uni too!
mb, I seem to have the same problem as you. I have a cycle addiction as I just picked up a used DJer. You would like it, its like an enormous BMX, rides over rough terrain well, built like a tank so will get you strong and instead of being knocked to the side, it actually jumps up when you ram into things. You never sit down either so might be a good break for you. I still love the BMX more right now since its smaller/ligher and may resell it but wanted to see if I could handle a 26" DJer. If nothing else it will get my legs super strong. I dropped in finally about 8-10 feet up and did a pump track and had a blast. Uni this morning. Want to skate tomorrow before work and uni and ride my DJ bike. I need to retire and marry rich lol. I also need a good recovery secret as my legs are TIRED tonight! I love not going to school, woo-hoo!
Today I’m pretty pumped. Did a few things I have not managed to do before. I have finally got to be able to roll to a stop, hop a few times, and ride away. (Doesn’t always work, but at least I’m getting there.) I continued to work on idling, and then riding backwards beside a wall, but felt pretty comfortable leaning backwards, and didn’t fall at all.
Another local unicyclist told me about a new mount to try because it usually takes me several attempts before I can mount my 29". I’m not sure what he called it (rolling mount?), but you walk forwards with the uni in front and as the pedal comes through the 6 o’clock position you put the seat between your legs, step onto the pedal, and use your forward momentum to step up onto the other pedal with the other foot and ride away. After a couple of missed mounts, I got the hang of it, and was able to do it pretty consistently. It certainly looks much more fluid and elegant than the rollback mount I have been doing. I pulled out the smaller wheels and iterated until I could do it on them all.
I also managed to ride round and round in (for me) small circles - about 20ft diameter on my 20". At first I could only do it to the left, but eventually got it going to the right. On one of these circles, I fell on my outstretched left hand, and broke the plastic splint in my wrist protector. Better that than my wrist.

Hi Susan,
It sounds like a very good day. The rolling mount is supposed to be good for larger wheels. I am not good at it, but it is the obvious choice for a 36". I just use a static mount for my 29". I should learn if for my 36" but I have been too lazy.
How are your turns on the 29"? I find the larger wheels a lot of fun for turns–you can get up some speed and really lean into the turn!
The turns are not tight, but they are fun.
I have watched video of someone doing that on a 36". He was doing high speed U turns in the street and really leaning into the turns. Looked absolutely phenomenal. It will be a little while before I get there on my 29", but it’s where I plan to go!

Today, I bought my first unicycle! I’ve never rode, been on, or really ever been around a unicycle before today. Whenever I’ve seen a preformer on one, I always got a big grin on my face and told myself someday I’d learn to ride. Well, at the age of 30, my journey to ride has begun. I picked up a Torker Unistar CX 24 at the local bike shop. I spent about 2 hours on it today and LOVE IT! Progress is going to be slow, but I can make it about 15 feet unassisted. I deffinatly underestimated the physical difficulty involved in riding a uni. I worked up a good sweat and my quads are tight. Hope I’m not too sore to ride some more tomorrow.
Hey Mr Budman, welcome to one wheel. I have the exact same 24 and am really enjoying it.There’s a steep learning curve to begin with, but once you get the feel for keeping the wheel underneath you, you can just keep going. I’m only about two months ahead of you. Have fun.
Yeah, Ive been reading up and watching instructional videos. They make it look so easy! LOL! The best advice it got was at the bike shop “Sit strait, head up, lean forward, and when you think you are going to fall, just keep peddling.” I have some better luck when I peddle to a steady cadence in my head (1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4…) I’m surprised that I don’t normally fall forward/ back, but side to side. Well, I’m happy with day one. Legs are sore, but moral is high.
I’m slowly getting better at the 24! Getting the right turns now and went about 1/4 mile. I didnt get much time in this morning since I’m dead tired from exams, only 20 mins before work, then it rained. I’m just getting mad that my tire hasnt come yet. I already put in a dispute with pay pal and might buy from some one else now. I’m glad I had some time on a 2" tire but a 2.5 would give me lots of stability. I’m off Monday so I’ll sleep in and bike, skate and uni all day. Then go to bed early lol.
Holy cow cbs. Does it ever NOT rain where you live? Today we are suffering a sunny 95 degrees. I love the heat! Yay for freedom from school. I got a Masters degree last year and know the pain! Now I’m working an extra part time teaching job to save up for a new unicycle. My husband is getting really good at rolling his eyes.
Hey mrbudman2(me), first day and 15 feet? That doesn’t sound like slow progression to me. Have fun on your Torker. I have 2 Torkers and one Nimbus. I’m having more fun than an old person should have. Okay some may think that 49 isn’t old, but I don’t like approaching the half century mark.
This morning I climbed most of a trail that I wouldn’t have been able to attempt just a few weeks ago. It has a few really steep sections that I still can’t ride up and one piece that I won’t ride down. The rest was pleasantly doable. I’m really liking trails. Later in the day I unicycled to the grocery store and then iterated going backwards and idling. I know I’m improving but it’s such a SLOWWWWW progression. I guess I’m not a virtuous person since patience is a virtue. Tomorrow morning I am going to redo the same trail without the dogs. They love to stop right in front of me.
Tomorrow afternoon the brakes go on my MUni. I gotta say, I’m a bit worried about killing myself.
mbalmer, patience is a virtue! I do not have a lot of it, but I do have persistence. Day to day my progress is slow, and sometimes I go backwards. If I recall what I could do a month ago and what I can do now, it is easy to see that I am making progress. It looks like you are seeing the same progress in your trail riding.
I have been learning to ride one-footed, which is a blast. I can now get it to work occasionally for a handful of strokes. It is getting better every day, but I want it to be consistent NOW. What I am really practicing is falling off my unicycle and getting mounted again. My mounts are absolutely great! My UPDs are very predictable. :o
You all are doing great! I am progressing but its slow. I didnt progress fast in skating either but it always got better slowly. I noticed when I went to the BMX pump track last night, that I’m still a wus. Took me 10 mins to drop in on my bike but then I relaxed some and felt like a super hero lol. Still not loose enough for landings to really get high airs so this is holding me back in all things. After that I seemed to have relaxed in the seat better this morning on my KH24. So I had a better ride today. For me a lot of it is mental thats holding me back so I’m slowly facing all my fears and trying to loosen up!!! I have one more surgery to loosen the joint capsule in my elbow/wrist so I get more movement, then my arm is all done. The bone looks great so I SHOULD relax. I just keep remembering I’m not 12 now though lol. Just dying to get my hookworm so I can try mounts. The 2" would be a disaster to learn on…
But I’m having more fun then ever so thats all that matters! But yes, always seem to rain here which hasnt ever been the norm but now is pissing me off. I have rain affective disorder it seems. So working on getting a night light as it might rain, have class or have to work during the day and I MUST practice and ride my uni and other fun things.
This rain is ruining my progress rate as it WAITS until I get off work too…grrrrrrrrrr. I have surgery on the 26th so eager to get as much in as possible as I know with the stitches and all, might not be able to ride for a week and a half.
I think you are progressing well considering your injury, future surgery, being in school, and weather. Maybe once you are fully recovered the weather will be perfect. Where is Gaithersburg?
Does anyone know where Dane M is? He hasn’t been online in over a month and his last post was on the 2nd page of this thread. He seemed to really enjoy unicycling and for a while he was posting about 10 replies per day. It looked like he really had talent and now I notice he’s not posting any more. Anyone know where he is or if he’s still riding? Here’s his last post:
i was wondering the same thing maybe he’ll come back
so i just cleared my first real stair set. its a 3 set but its really long steps so its lke clearing 4 about. I finally got the balls to rolling hop it and it went great. Jumping off of things is no longer my problem its jumping on to them… i can static jump seat in 12 inches or more and my friend told me i was rolling hopping about 14/16 inches but i am to scared to try hopping onto somthing like this.D
