Hey tyler, add me. Mine is unicyclist_Thomas. Yes I copied you…
You know what I think what would be cool? Have a PC/104 mainboard, this chip as HDD, have some BSD flavour on it (with Skype!), in a box like this, but with a nummeric keypad on the closing-plate. and old fashioned telephone-receiver + hook. Then you would’nt need a noisy computer (or laptop) to be online 24/h a day.
All very possible… but of course Skype wont let you play with their GUI.
But using SIP you can make that thing work… but then you rather buy that Cisco VoIP phone, with WiFi Handheld and have some SIP provider.
Anyway, I like using Skype. I start to use it more and more like a regular phone (in and out). And the quality of most phone-calls are good. Computer to computer over many hops is not always perfect… but hey, those call are entirely for free.
i can’t get it to work thru the firewall thingy here at work
it’s a major irritation
ok I already ahd it downloadd from awhile back but never really used it, convicne me it’s worth using, my unsername is jeff.sargeant

That’s not cool. And the cache did cache the ‘frozen’ place-holder.

I just took the new Skype client.
As I have Skype-In and Skype-Out… I now can have call-forwarding to up to 3 numbers!
Cool.
We use Skype, with bought minutes, as our main house phone, and a cell phone to receive regular calls.

…and 911 calls.
Though that “problem” is getting improved.
And during the storm in New Orleans, there were multiple people who’s internet-connection stayed alive somehow, and had 8 simultanious Skype connections… which connected better than all the dead phones in the entire area. And according the article I did read (at some militairy website) it saved a couple of lives.
I, too, used skype when it was in it’s beta stages. My skype name was burjzyntski, same as this one. Maybe I should install it again…
And it’s called VoIP (Voice over IP [Internet Protocol, for you nubs]). It sends packets of information (your sentence/question) to someone else, who replies in the same manner.
