After the first weekend on my new KH Freeride, I am really stoked!! It seems lighter, tighter and stiffer than my last years model. The cranks are gorgeous and I am getting used to 150s instead of my old 165s. The wider rim works great with my Gazz and the seatpost clamp is beefy and I think adds to the stiffer feel. The seat hurt my butt the first ride but yesterday it felt great, you feel like you can move around better, the old fusion kind of locked you in.
My only complaint is the yellow rim tape and I’ll fix that.
Yo Jim I thought you said you liked the old KH saddle better? I hope I can get used to the new one also! I’ll find out soon as my new KH Freeride (2007) will be here today! Also my new nimbus BC…weeee! That was a very challenging, fun trail, the San Juan Loop! But I just can’t believe it’s only 2 1/2 miles! ANyway a fun ride all around. It just made things a little less fun with my upset stomach and headache that just wouldn’t go away! Woke up that morning with it; still there when I went to bed last night! Gone now.
After getting on “Marge” at the end with the old fusion seat, I do like the new better. Plus my butt did not hurt at all yesterday, only the first time I rode it so I think it is just a matter of getting used to it, like the shorter cranks.
I hate you .
Well, at least I have my BC.
Got it. Love it. But not sure about the saddle, OR the 165’s! Might ask UDC to exchange them for 150’s.
Also got my new nimbus BC today. It’s cool but even at the lowest of the three axle-hole settings, the bolt STILL hits me ankle! What to do, what to do? Wear my active ankle braces I guess!
I had to adjust my saddle angle a few times, you just cant tilt it like the old ones and have it feel right, and I too ordered mine with the 165s but also bought a set of 150s as spares
After suffering through the flat sections at California muni weekend with 165s on my KH24, I switched to 150s, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back.
You must ride with your feet in very awkward positions, normally riding the bolt should not come near your ankle.
“Akward?” No. Just putting my feet smack dab in the center of the footplate. The only way to avoid contact is to position my feet more on the outside of the footplate, but THAT is an “Awkard” position. I do wear a size 10 shoe, so that might be part of the problem. The plate, in my opinion, should simply be LOWER so there is ZERO contact with the bolt, period.
i find I ride with the bolt about the middle of my feet and i have my feet crammed under it.
How has the rim been holding up for all you guys that have the 2007 KH.
Yeah, and that’s not good. There should be more clearance. Maybe it doesn’t bother you, but having my feet “crammed” under a huge steel bolt isn’t very comfy! And EVERY other person who’s tried my nimbus has complained about the bolt as well, so I’m not the only one.
I agree that they should be lower like the new bedfords that aren’t out yet. I ride with the bolts probably half way between my ankle and big toe. It will be a little different because I ride with long plates but I used to ride short ones and I did about the same thing. I wear about the same shoe size as you too.
So, Jim and Terry, when can we expect your very nice pre-07 KH24s to show up in the Trading Post???
Mine’s already gone. I’m slowly converting all my MTB buddies, so mine went to one of them
I think I’ll prolly keep my '05 freeride as a backup, or maybe sell it to someone in our riding circle who wants to upgrade to something better. No hurry.
hey, you up for a ride this weekend? save your muni, I want to try it:)
yeah we might do the same trail again this weekend! Hey, I changed that fugly yellow rim tape…check the pic! It matches!!! Me so happy!
What did you use?
