Quote of the day (from non-riders)

That’s a great response!

Aww. It is not better with two wheels.

However, it is more efficient. At the cost of boringness.

My preferred response to that one, which I amazingly haven’t heard in quite a while, is “On my other unicycle.” Maybe people don’t think of that one when you’re on a 36"?

Love it!

I have been known to tell people “This was a tricycle!” which gets a bemused look.

Recently I stopped and a couple of cyclists came up and one said “Just get another f…ing wheel!” to which I replied “I don’t know how you can afford to run two wheels in these uncertain economic times”. We had a good laugh together at that.

I received yesterday a package…

The women at the office said :“Of, what a strange pack; you’ve received a very big fish !”

you gotta show us your new wheel!

It is not really new, it’s a used one.(Koxx one devil 20").

I tried last evening to put this big fish back in the sea, but it doesn’t even know how to swim.

We should keep a running list of come backs. But that’s the best one yet.

Many older threads of that nature exist. The contents are ageless, for the most part, and most were invented a long time ago.

«Cool cycle», a kid shouted as I passed.

An elder man came around the corner in our local park just as I was jump mounting to ride away. He said “f@ck me mate, you’re going to kill yourself!”

Here’s a few from the past week…

  • Not a quote exactly, but a woman walking down a trail talking on the phone started commentating my every move to her listener: “He’s riding a unicycle down the trail, over the roots and rocks and everything! Uh oh! He’s bouncing up and down, it’s like he’s on a pogo stick! Now he’s back in control! …”

  • “Why you ride that stupid-ass bike?”

  • from a little kid, who should have been wowed by my 36er: “Can you freemount?”

Wonder if that kid has exposure to unicycling. Me and 36er freemounting…
Mostly no!

How is your latest foray into 36ering going? More enjoyable than last time?

I’m giving myself a thumbs down on that. If I do it, I will need to be much more fluent with the rolling mount. I did see a video of a little Dutch gal using a rollback mount of a 36er, but I’d really need to improve my idling abilities if I was to do that…

I am happy with my 24 and 27.5" mounting though, and even with success on slight uphills.

Also I seem to have lost my ability to hop right foot back on my KH24. :frowning: Maybe its me getting better with left foot back on the 27.5 and the 29er that has screwed up my right foot back hopping… i’ll go back to the trials uni and practice the heck out of it on there.

I think a rolling mount is really the best option. Even if you can do other mounts the rolling mount is the easiest option when you’re tired in the middle of a long ride.

A rollback mount also works well, but only on flat smooth ground. The one I have problems with on a 36er is the static mount. It’s just too much of a leap to get up on top of that big wheel.

A rollback mount is very hard to do on a 36" and I find you really need long 150mm+ cranks to be able to pull one off. Rolling is by far the easiest mount but I typically use a static mount for mine with almost 100% success unless I’m tired or it’s very steep.

The main concern is developing the muscle strength required to mount and ride it. So daily practice for months is a must.

Maybe a nightfox frame would be better for me, that way I can put the seat lower, hopefully leap up to the top of the frame then ride off….
