Results are consistent with prayers to a fully-believed-in diety. Hypothesis is that the praying can be good for you.
I pray to nobody, or rather somebody who can fix things if there is such a being out there, that the world will begin to understand my sense of humour, and know precisely when to take me seriously and when to not take me seriously. I also pray that people will stop taking any idea that opposes their own opinions personally, and will take a nice long look at those ideas, and explain to themselves in a rational manner why the opposing idea is true or false, taking as many things into account as possible, and then if they find the opinion to be false, make sure they are heard and make sure they state exactly why they rationalized the idea is false, and then hear what the opposing viewpoint has to say and whether or not it works, and debating like this in a very civilized and impersonal manner. Not for an increase in self esteem, not to win anything for themselves, but to further the knowledge and wisdom of mankind. They should not try to prove that they are right and the other person is wrong, they should try to prove their idea is right and the other idea is wrong. Ideas are not people, and people should not be too faithful to their ideas, and ideas should not be too faithful to their people. I pray that things will change in this way.
