Sapim Race Double-Butted Spokes + Black Brass Nipples
UDC 36H Steel Hub (square taper)
I still need to get a tire + tube for it tomorrow but otherwise it’s ready to go… It’s going on my Club 26", and I did a quick test fit of a 32c tire and it looks like it would barely fit. I’ll probably get a 28c for it. I still have the wheelset that came with the unicycle so I can swap between the two depending on where I plan on riding with it.
Took it for it’s first ride today and wow… It feels alien compared to the 26x2.125! Towards the end of the ride I felt like I was getting used to the different handling characteristics of this wheel, though I’ll keep riding it for the rest of this week to really get a good feel for it.
Just setting out on restoring a 20+ year old uni that was rescued from the scrap metal bin at a recycling site in Cornwall. It’s got all the classic trials/street parts of its time - Alex DX32 19" rim, Luna trials tyre, Onza splined hub and cranks, DMR pedals, KH Fusion Street saddle, double fork-tube frame. Part of the project is making a uni I’ll enjoy riding, the other part is hopefully figuring out who made the frame, and maybe even whose uni it once was. The frame is brazed chromoly and in good enough condition to keep. It’s from the era of the Rowing Blizzard and the DM Vortex, but seems to be not exactly like either but a bit of each, with angled pressed-steel bearing holders and an unusual off-straight seat tube with an integrated seatpost clamp on the front edge - maybe a prototype or a copy? I’ve started by cleaning up the seatpost and frame.
Cool project! Looks like a DIY frame to me. Braze the first fork tubes straight to the seat tube …and, oh, the tubes of the second fork will be angled …well, who cares?
It‘s a cool frame, and I‘m looking forward to see pictures of the finished unicycle.
PP pipes saddle, continue.
Tested saddle was broken at last, after hard hopes. When I tried to pull it up to early before jump. Of course it is my fault, to pull up the handle before take off, but it was good test for reliability. So, second generation frame is made. This time, I use whole polypropylene pipes with outsize diametr 25mm, and walls 5,4mm.
The price of such 2 meters pipe is $1,5. Unfortunately, it available only in white color.
Finished assembling my 19" impact based trials uni after getting the frame back from powder coating. Special thanks to @www.einradshop.ch for providing a unique hub that I could not find elsewhere!
Time to add a new contender for the fastest, “VelociT-Rex”. It has a 1:9 ratio and can be changed as you please. More modifications are on the way. The video of it can’t be sent because it’s “unauthorized”
I’d say not rideable at all. At a comfortable cruising crank RPM of 100 with 24" wheel the speed would be 64 MPH (103 km/h). But it should be fun to try.
