What frame is that? Looks a bit weird with those lines on the legs…

Have you tried paint stripper? Its messy but it usually gets the job done.

@Jacob, I believe its an impact frame.

its a ‘Impact Gravity’ not the newer longneck, so should I call it a shortneck?

with a bit more work, second adn third rubdowns, Im getting the paint residues out

its starting to shine

Ill put more pics up after I start buffing and polishing

I though they had flat sides. I’ve only glanced at them in person so it’s probably just something i’ve overlooked.

Can’t wait to see it shiny

Finaly unmolding my nearly flat CF base  pictures only when it’s done

Tweaking parts for my 36" while i wait for the wheel to arrive…

While i’m still waiting for my 36§ wheel to be delivered (as soon as they get the spokes) i am tweaking others parts of my future KH 36".

First thing was to shorten the seatpost by 20cm,

and after a testride with the 26" wheel and 150mm cranks shortening it by another cm and the frame by 2 cm.

After comparing my flattened Qu-Ax seat with the KH Freeride i decided to flatten this too.

I like your riding shoes

Nearly flat seat! with Carbon Fiber  My mold wasn’t supposed to stick on the CF… it did, so dont ask about the pieces of wood on my seatbase! I’ll find a better way next time.

I do ride sometimes wearing these when i’m using my 20" inside the company building.

For everything else i’m either using Dr.Martens (8 eyelet boot) or Converse-like Puma hi-top sneakers (more footbed than converse = better for my flatfoot).

I’m eagerly awaiting the last parts for my 36" (rim, rim-tape, spokes and hub) so i can complete the build and start riding.

Greetings

Hey Jacob. What tire is that?

It’s the IRC Kujo DH, not produced anymore. I managed to get 2 of them.

It’s just as wide as a 24x3" Gazz, it has a thread pattern similar to the duro but the knobs are closer to each other. It’s also much lighter than a Gazz or Duro!

Next time wrap the mold in a plastic-bag

do you still have the mold? is it stiff? i was going to do a ghetto flat seat on my street-dh uni but cant due to breaking seat post because of flex

Since I’m currently working on a custom build I can finally post in this thread!

Hopefully by the end of next week I’ll have a sweet custom 29er to play around with.

Here’s my parts list:

  • Oracle frame (stripped)
  • Spirit 150s
  • Bengal brake (disc)
  • Nimbus wheel (chrome spokes)
  • Hans Dampf (!!!)
  • KH freeride saddle

It’s either gonna look awsome, or crap. Either way it’ll ride really well (I think).

I probably will do this next time. I’ve been told by a friend who studies in Composite materials that Sillicone spray wouldn’t stick. It didn’t stick on my test CF piece, but it did on my full seat!

I dont have the mold anymore, I had to destroy it because my base was stuck on it. I will make a new one using the seatbase I already have though.

It is stiff, but not as stiff as I wanted. I’ll add more layers in the front of the seat next time. I have a few tests to do again. Some of my friends want to have a semi-flat seat also so I’ll probably make a few ones for them haha :stuck_out_tongue:

almost done

So im getting there with the polishing.
been through the grits 180, 400, 800, 1000, 2000

then when back and worked on the troublesome areas

back up through the numbers

borrowed a dremmel, and had a go with the felt mop wheel and the polishing rouge

then finally meguiars mag and aluminum polish

My goal was a finish the same as the spirits. Im actually pretty happy with the result. possibly even a bit better
I know it will dull, but should be easy enough to polish up again

Nice!

Soon it will be …

Rim, spokes and cranks are the only parts i am still waiting for so i can build my 36" Uni.
(should already be on their way, can’t start working on it before thursday anyway)

Here’s a pic of the tire next to the 20" uni i keep in my office.

I’m so excited and afraid at the same time thinking about mounting and riding it for the first time.

I finally completed my “quest for a franken-trial”.

After 6+ months, I managed to get together a trial uni out of spares/trade/sales (except for the hub because I wanted to ensure a strong wheelset).

So here is the specs porn:

  • Koxx One Muni saddle (from the old times  )
  • CrMo 27.2 seatpost w/ shim to 29.2
  • K1 black double clamp
  • K1 devil frame (thanks to Mad)
  • K1 light hub (the real ISIS edition)
  • AlexRim DX32
  • Impact white tyre (19x2.5)
  • KH Moment 137mm cranks (with self-extracting bolts)
  • Haro white pedals

If somebody have a Naomi white saddle unused, don’t forget me…

Warning: bragging ahead

I don’t know why everyone’s so afraid of 36ers. They’re not hard to mount, they just need the right mindset to ride and a bit of courage. If I can ride one, anyone can!*

*note: I don’t own a 36er so I can’t speak of proper riding although I have rode one around a bit.
