Post Your Current Projects Here

Very true. its also better to bring in with you to

I have a QX 24 inch muni which I absolutely love for heavy duty / tech muni. Recently, I’ve decided I need another uni to cover everything from XC, AM to Enduro. Basically it will be a KH26 guni with a lighter wheelbuild.

Schwalbe Hans Dampf 26x2.35, Trailstar, 765g, (people seem to like this tire and it fits my needs)
Dartmoor Revolt Rim: 525g, 27 mm inner width (very light for a DH rim and pretty wide for bike standards)
DT Swiss Competition 2.0-1.8mm Spokes
DT Brass Nipples 2mm x 12mm
Schlumpf/KH Hub

I will start with a light DH tube. Depending on how many flats I’ll have, I’ll try tubeless or if possible go with a lighter tube. If I’ll have too many flats and tubeless doesn’t work out, I could upgrade to the Super Gravity version but for now I will go with the lighter Hans.

Brake: Disc Brake Avid Elixir 3, 180mm (got it cheap)
Pedals: Try All Simple Cage Elite or similar cage pedals (I ride with hiking boots)

The rest will be stock KH26 more or less.

So far I’ve only bought the disc brake. Do you see any problems or contradictions in my planned specs? I’m open to any suggestions

And here it is

Do you know how much that thing weights? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m thinking about switching my Schlumpf hub into a 26" wheel. I’m riding 24x3", on the geared hub it’s pretty heavy I’m also using a super heavy DH tube, I’d probably go Tubeless if I had a 26". I’m waiting for my KH spirits, I’ll be adding the Disk Brake in the next few weeks!

It weights 6.8 kg with brake and a heavy DH tube. If I get a flat during the next few months I will also try tubeless

Revamping my hockey uni

I dont have pics right now. I’ll try to get some up over the next few days

So I’m upgrading my unicycle for hockey. As background I bought a trials uni. And found little aptitude or enthusiasm for trials. So ended up using this for hockey

So my recent project
I’ve built a new wheelset fir the uni. ( if I want to go back to trials, I’m keeping that wheelset)

New wheel

Mad 4 one 32 hole aluminum 100mm hub
Spirit 110mm cranks
Onza pro diamond 20" drilled rim
Al nipples
Foss tube
Maxis grifter (folding) tyre

So with the overhaul of the wheel I thought I had to do serving with the frame (impact gravity)
So what I’m doing is stripping it down to raw aluminum. And the polishing it up to a chrome like finish
That’s the plan anyway

Stay posted for pics

Are you going to coat it with something? Because polished alu quite quickly becomes dull and doesn’t look so good any more.

I was undecided as to whether or not to apply a clearcoat.
after reading various posts about people doing this with bike frames, most seemed not to do it , just re polishing as it dulls - im guessing this is the surface oxidising.

but step one is to get it polished.

I have all the paint off and have done the first rubdown with 180 grit
going to go through the numbers up to 1200 grit next,

then break out the dremmel

fun times

I’d just sand it with fine grit wet and dry then leave it. If you polish it, wont it just look like steel/chrome? (never polished alu before)

I think alu oxide looks cool, like titanium.

Excellent rim choice  looking forward to see that hockey-uni!

Polished aluminium

Polished aluminium looks even shinier than chrome IMO.

I stripped and polished my KH flat back in 2011 and now use it for my hockey uni. Haven’t had to re-polish yet as it is still holding it’s shine (not as bright as the day it came home, but still nice).

Here’s a pic from a while ago, still looks similar today (or it did last week when I played hockey last).

Cheers,

Dmac

What rim is that?

Touche. The crown looks a bit different though - much more industrial when polished.

That was the hardest part to polish up because of the knurled surface on the crown. Basically had to sand it back to get rid of the knurling and residual powdercoat, so now there’s a very light texture on it from the troughs of the knurling, but it still polished up nicely.

I had it done by a professional place that plates and polishes chrome motorcycle parts, and polishes aluminum as well.

As for the rest of the uni, it started life as a KH20 flatland, the wheelset is still the same other than a foss tube and a lightweight indoor tyre for hockey. Now running 89mm ventures instead of the 110mm moments, makes for a super fast lightweight hockey uni!

Cheers, dmac.

after first rub down

So Ive put a bit of work in to starting this
but a long way to go before it looks as good as that KH flatland.

took the mjority of the paint off with an emery wheel on a dremmel. then 180 grit sanding by hand
ive just done my first rub down with 400 grit. and it seems we’re getting somewhere.

I know the key to this is patience and I intend to do this in stages and have a nice end result

But Im having some difficulty geting the residue of pain in the creases in the frame, and in the welds too. any suggestions??

I ordered a disk brake for my Muni, but I didn’t have the disk tab, I didn’t want to spend money on a Nimbus D-Brake adapter. So I welded the tab myself!

Waiting for my brake now haha!

Post some pictures when you have the brake mounted. Looks good.

Custom Nimbus 24" Muni

I bought the frame/seat post/saddle set right here on our trading post. and then built it up with a Halo SAS rim (36 mm wide), Nimbus hub, DT Champion 14 ga spokes - black with silver nipples, Nimbus 150 mm Venture Cranks, and Fyzation Gates Slim pedals.

The tire is a Schwalbe Table Top Sport 24 x 2,25.

This was my first wheel build for a unicycle (thanks to Feisty for the inspiration) and it was tons of fun!

looks awesome:p

I like it, looks like a ton of fun
