Foss tube will be next to shed some more grams. Also, I think I am going to flatten my seat a bit. Seems to be the rage, and I like to try different stuff.
But how did your current seat modification work out for you? As for me, I rode the inflatable KH seat on a 30-mile 36āer ride, and I didnāt like it much at all. It was a pita alright. I tried a few different psi levels as well, but no cigar for me. Then I switched to the KH Freeride seat and it was a LOT better. I havenāt tried a flat seat yet, but reading Nurse Benās posts, it sounds like quite the way to go.
Itās really comfy, rode Ride The Lobster with it and all the training for it.
Using my āspareā 36 to develop riding style. Pushed myself over the front with ādroppedā bars, got narrow hub and no āQā on 114 Ventures that seems to stop too much wheel 'wobble above 10mph. Mudguard is always my concession as I live in a wet place. Finding the Street saddle more comfortable than the Freeride for distance! This uni rides very silent - no crank creaks or spoke pings or anything except the sound of the tyre on the road.

Your uni is shy. Itās trying to hide in the bushes.
take it out and get friendly
I took the leap yesterday and ordered a Coker Big One. I was torn between Coker, UDC Titan, KH 36, and Nimbus Oracle. But the Coker Big One seemed to offer the best value (although thatās very arguable). For under $600 it offers a handle bar, brake, aluminum frame, and wide selection of colors. To be honest, the color availability was a large factor. In the end, I couldnāt justify dropping another $1000+ on a new unicycle and the the ease of choosing a paint color on the Coker website trumped the thought of finding someone to powder coat a new Titan. I am a little nervous about the non-ISIS hub on the Coker, but Iām planning to use it as a cruiser so hopefully it wonāt be a problem. Iāll post up a pic once I get itācanāt wait.
Trust me youll love it
What color?
I went with the āsafety orangeā frame and the grey seat. At least partially inspired by the orange Titan gathan posted a couple weeks ago. Other contenders were the āsour appleā and āred baron.ā Iāve read some not-so-flattering things about the Coker stock saddle, so Iām expecting to have to buy one of those, but hopefully thatās all the money Iāll need to put into it for a while.
You might be able to carve yourself a decent seat from the Coker foam. Iām not sure how the seat cover goes back on though. You might need a KH cover.
I got a bizarre e-mail from Coker today. They sent me a āPowder coat authorization formā to fill out and fax back. The form says powder coating could add 12 weeks or longer to the delivery. Iāve got a few problems with this. First, I already authorized them to powder coat the unicycle when I ordered it in a specific color. Second, if this is going to add anywhere near 12 weeks to my order, Iām cancelling and buying from UDC (and then having it painted myself). Third, what retail company sends customer Word documents to fill out after theyāve made a purchase?
Frustratedā¦
Ouch!! Did they say anything about that when you ordered. Iād definitely switch to UDC after that. Or maybe you could paint it yourself.
I recommend calling them up and talking to someone directly about it. Theyāre apparently out of stock on this particular color, and probably powdercoat frames in batches (for economic reasons). The 12 weeks is probably a best guess at how long it takes to get enough orders to make up a batch job. If you call them, they can probably tell you which colors are currently in stock, and how long it typically takes to get your chosen color done.
After I saw your posting about ordering the orange color, I went to their website to look at what colors were offered. I was surprised at the number of colors, and wondered if they actually stock them in all of those colors. Apparently they donāt (or maybe you caught them in-between batches).
You could have the frame powdercoated yourself at a local shop, but it would be kind of the same thing ā have them put it in with another batch of a color you can live with, or spend extra and have it done by itself in the exact color you want. Whenever Iāve had parts powdercoated in the past, I just went with basic black, a common color, and therefor didnāt pay any extra for my small batch size ā they put it together with other orders of the same color.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!
Nothing about itā¦the first thing I did was go back and see if I missed some fine print, but thereās no mention of any of this that I can find on their website.
Lance - Iāll probably do thatājust call them tomorrow and find out how to expedite the process. If itās not possible, then Iāll try to cancel the order and go through UDC.
In the end, this is no biggie.
Hey, I actually just bought a Coker from the website, ordered it on April 29. The thing is, they send the frame to a separate company to powder coat it. Depending on other clients the company may have, your frame may take a long time to powder coat. I know this isnāt ideal and it should say something about this when youāre choosing a color, but I went through with it, not being in a rush to get my Coker. I received my Coker on the 21st of May. So a week less than a month from the time I ordered it. I know you probably already changed your mind, but I thought I would just give you some insight to my Coker order
Over on āThe worlds second best unicycle seatā thread, dudes seem to flattening their saddles. The flattest Ive managed is a stock Freeride - that gives me a real pain in the butt after 40 miles. Unlike my Street saddle that feels a lot less painless even at 60 miles. So now I am going further with the KH Slim. Here it is just fitted - bent and low profile
āless painlessā
Even a flat seat can have too much padding and too much padding can get uncomfortable very quick. Flat Seat vs. Curved Seat imho the flat seat wins, when both have the same padding.
BTW. just noticed that i must be pretty short legged, nearly everybody has a lot of things attached to your seatpost and/or seattube. On my 36 i had to cut the seatpost by 21cm and the deattube by 2 cm so i can ride with 167mm cranks.
Greetings
