Hi Terry,

You might like these cranks for your 36":

This is UniDude’s new ā€œbig wheelā€. It is actually more like 4.7", but to the UniDude it’s like a 36".

You can see him ride it here:

My 36er in just made ā€œshoeā€

Nice ā€œShoeā€! Is it for storage or traveling or ?

Thanks! I made it for storage - to avoid black marks on the walls and washing after every ride

thats nifty. could store it in a garage.

Agreed… but if you have no garage and have to store it at balcony with light walls (like me) it works just fine. Picture made in storage area :o

Re: Terry’s crazy long ā€œcranksā€. Sorry I don’t have a better picture, but this shows Gary Kanuch’s Coker with his custom 210mm cranks. This was at the Mt Diablo Challenge in 2003. I have used up to 170mm back in the day, but these are the longest I am aware of someone actually using. Gary is really tall and has long legs, but even he said it felt like pedaling in a square.

200mm! Yowza, that is waaaay long. I have 180’s, rode them one day on single track, swapped to 175’s and rode those for a while, finally worked down to 165’s as a compromise. It is nice to have the extra leverage for climbing and descending steep stuff.

I tried 137’s the other day for the first time in years, worked okay, spun wonderfully, but I had zero control off road compared to 165’s. I’m thinking of dropping to 150’s over the Winter, just to see how I do now that I’m comfortable riding off road on a big wheel.

The new Nimbus Oracle 36er is spec’d with a Foss tube, mineral oil Tektro disc brake (180mm rotor) with adjustable hose angle, and a touring handle!

Not to mention the Stealth 2 rim, disc hub, Nightrider tire, aluminum frame.

I’d upgrade the seat to a KH for another $15, maybe dual hole cranks, otherwise that’s a whole lot of uni for $900!!

I wanna tell you a story, 'bout a uni I know
When it comes to riding, 'bout to steal the show
Ain’t exactly pretty, ain’t exactly small
36" x 2.5" with 150mm cranks you can say it’s got it all…
Never had a uni, never had a uni like this…

A whole lot of uni…

etc., with loud guitar by Angus Young

Funny I started out with theme to Beverly Hillbillies until I saw the directive to think, AC-DC… Thanks

Ha. Me too.

My new rear view mirror, for road riding. I made the little extension so I can see everything behind me clearly. I tried several clip-on types that attach to your glasses or helmet, but didn’t like them. This works much better for me. Just got to be careful not to drop it!

@Terry,

You just about go more uni in front of the seat than you have below the seat :stuck_out_tongue:

Rather have a uni in front of me than a frontal la-uni-me!

With that handlebar setup surely it is crying out for a bike saddle?

Oh and I must stop coming into this thread as I end up going straight to UDC afterwards and start looking/pricing up a 36er  :stuck_out_tongue:

I may have to try that sometime, but the FFR is pretty comfy, and I’m used to it.

Aero bars

I fitted aero bars during the unicon, they made a huge difference, much more comfy on the ass and reduced strain on the back. Mounting takes a little getting used to though

My son, a Minecraft fan, named my new uni ā€œThe Creeper.ā€ :sunglasses:
